Great, our cyberpunk dystopia is also an urban fantasy where we confound the soulless Fae with poems and riddles.

If you're trying to convince your friends to spend time on Bluesky rather than X, maybe show them this. X is not "the public town square" or about "free speech." It's "just what Elon Musk wants you to see." If you see stuff he doesn't like he'll step in to make sure you don't see it for long.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.

What I honestly find depressing is all that money and energy against trans athletes when the coach accused of raping multiple people is just *there*

(I know why, easier to demonize the oppressed rather than challenge the patriarchy).
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

The decision by the DOJ to dismiss the charges against Martinez and Ruiz came a day after a federal judge in Chicago ordered the government to turn over to the defense additional text messages by the CBP agents involved in the incident.

A federal judge on Thursday dismissed the indictment against two people accused last month of "ambushing" federal agents conducting an immigration sweep in Chicago.

Interstellar #comet #3I/ATLAS in the early hours of November 20 as seen from Crete, as the weather was favorable. A faint ion tail and anti-tail can be seen as the comet is past perihelion. Nothing out of the ordinary but cool to see such a bright interstellar object. #cometWatch

They really banned the word "oppression" bro 😭😆
The party that promised "free speech on campus" has made sure there can be no free speech on campuses.
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

What’s happening in Britain with digital ID is very dark and will be migrating across the pond
Politicians are using immigration as cover to build their surveillance apparatus
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.
Exclusive: Ofcom is monitoring VPNs following Online Safety Act. Here's how
Ignoring VPNs risks creating ineffective laws, but tracking them threatens people's privacy

The hegemonic politics around policing has been, is, and will remain the major stumbling block of this moment for so many.
These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.

Interviews and records show the White House intervened on behalf of accused sex trafficker Andrew Tate during a federal investigation.

The incident is the latest in a string of matters where the Trump administration has inserted itself to help friends and target foes.

Federal authorities were chided for seizing electronic devices from Tate and his brother, and told to return them, records and interviews show. Experts said the intervention was highly inappropriate.

I remember the "backwards B" thing and, idk, while it is amusing to see so much concrete evidence of the phony grievance manufacture at the heart of conservative political culture, it also seems like serious psycho-sexual maladies run amok there.. the full-on staging the NJ woman did is disturbing

CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”
November 20, 2025 at 3:19 AM
Look at the WAY they wrote this absolute slop. On not just any govt website, but the CDC's. Just a few years ago, this was practically the most trusted expert organization in human history on the topic of infectious disease! I almost can't believe how badly it has been ransacked and defaced.
The U.S. government is now inarguably spreading medical disinformation that is going to kill babies preferentially.

Period.

This is an INTOLERABLE. UNPRECEDENTED. DANGEROUS. ATTACK. ON ALL OF US.

I tend to say this as "tech no longer cares if it's incorrect."
Like many things in tech, what tech “disruption” has actually disrupted are the reality-correction mechanisms that cause other kinds of productive activities to fail and need to be corrected, and that applies to everything from information security, to infra reliability, to harmful business models.

I'd hope that some of this be due to mistrust in the current govt, were they to offer an update (very unlikely, but maybe normie respondents didn't think about that) – except, it is a similar result to a survey from last year...
The rejection of science generally and public health specifically and the complete devaluation of expertise are now articles of faith for the American right.
A majority of U.S. adults (59%) say they don’t want to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine. This is roughly identical to the share who said in October 2024 that they probably wouldn’t get the updated vaccine.
