Kunde inte läsa artikeln på DN pga betalvägg men sökte och antar att jag hittade källan. Konceptuellt kul studie. På tok för mycket myter och just-so stories, så bra när det angrips experimentellt i gränslandet social- och naturvetenskap.

Genetics of human handedness: microtubules and beyond
Handedness (i.e., the preference to use either the left or the right hand for fine motor tasks) is a widely investigated trait. Handedness heritability is consistently estimated to be 25%. After decad...

It’s pretty impressive that the NB8 - a group of small European countries - is now coordinating with G7
Interesting statement on the shadow fleet by an interesting group of countries from G7 and the Nordic-Baltic 8++: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Statement: Shadow Fleet Task Force

🧪 Very cool. I have been playing with ABA biosensors in animal cells, I was going to do IAA sensors (both TIR1 based and AhR based). Maybe SA too?

SALICYLIC ACID SENSOR1 reveals the propagation of an SA hormone surge during plant pathogen advance
Salicylic acid (SA) is a key phytohormone that orchestrates immune responses against pathogens, including Pseudomonas syringae bacteria. The timing and extent of SA accumulation are tightly controlled...

I wish more people got this. Science is inefficient. I'd say probably say inherently inefficient. I know we all want to hurry up and make the world a better place with those tax dollars, but I believe the harder we try to rush things, the less effective we will be in the long run.
"Science is not broken, and it most certainly is not dying. It is an inefficient human activity....When we catastrophize, we feed a disillusionment which political actors can weaponize to get rid of scientific evidence they find inconvenient."

Difficult for me to put into words how disappointed I am in Sabine Hossenfelder. Many years back when she was just blogging about physics I was a huge fan, and she published a lot of intriguing papers. Now she makes money as a social media arsonist. 🧪

4 Fungi We've Finally Figured Out How To Farm ino.to/VmCZLpQ

I just thought of something: It could be quite interesting to identify the pathways giving various fungi their flavor and express them in yeast.

Imagine: Chantarelle- or Truffels- flavored yeast as flavoring.

Wild chimpanzees consume ~4.5 kg fruit containing ~14 g ethanol every day, the equivalent of 1-2 standard drinks daily. Both human and chimp alcohol metabolism evolved as an adaptation to eat fruit without being too intoxicated. 🧪 #vetmed
