Dismal framing. Every aspect of most asylum seekers’ lives is controlled & paid for by the Home Office. They can’t work, are told where to live & have no autonomy or dignity. So they aren’t *choosing* to use taxis & don’t need to be “banned” from doing so. The HO just needs to get its act in order.
Government to ban asylum seekers from using taxis
The ban is set to come in February and any exemptions will have to be signed off by the Home Office.

Add to this the fact that AI centres aren’t mandated to report their massive use of UK freshwater.
Water usage in data centres in Scotland has quadrupled since 2021 up to 13.5 million litres annually.
In England that’s 10 million litres
The good news is we do have videos of bunnies on trampolines

Can’t we have both? I don’t think we can have too many versions of ‘A Christmas Carol’

Although, given the performative cruelty of vulnerable folk over the past few decades, we’re going to need a lot of spirits…
Hope is here.

Corporate welfare costs between £85 billion and £180 billion a year in the UK.

If we choose to be angry over the £1 billion motability scheme, we’re allowing ourselves to be both divided and conquered
#Budget2025

Tax breaks for UK company cars cost the exchequer £3.27 billion a year

Motability costs £1 billion

Both are valuable to the folk who get them, and yet we save our pitchforks and torches for disabled people

While all the noise is going on around motability benefits & how disabled people should be given no more than a pogo stick to get around on - it’s worth considering -

The cost of motability is £1 billion

The cost of company car tax breaks is £3.25 billion

Today I discovered #Bloomscrolling

It’s rather lovely

Am I getting old?

Looks winsomely into the middle distance…

The way this Govenrment are treating some of the most vulnerable people in the world is disgusting.

And they the audacity to pretend it's coming from a place of compassion and concern.

Their only actual concern seems to be dancing to the tune of the far right rather than tackle inequality.

What’s important to you?

I had a really lovely conversation for the upcoming #SquarePegs #podcast where, no matter how much I tried to shoe-horn Maslow’s heirarchy of needs, my guest’s answer was ‘Community’, ‘Society’ and ‘Collective Action’
