yeah it’s bad that Lizza has been sitting on this for so long but also how cursory and inept was that Vox investigation that not only managed to miss the biggest scandal in the history of American political journalism but affirmatively exonerated her bsky.app/profile/bkel...
So the editor of New York Magazine said there was no bias or ethical problems with Olivia's articles?

Does he still think that?

They should retract all of her stories

This Day in Labor History: November 26, 1910.A factory in Newark, New Jersey caught on fire, killing 25 workers. This should have been led to workplace safety reform, but because wealthy people did not see the people making their clothing die, nothing happened. Triangle would be next year!!!

Given the choice between admitting they were wrong — and obviously so at the time — and blaming Biden for eroding norms surrounding pardons, the news outlets will get busy working on the blame pieces
Have any news outlets that ran scathing front page headlines, op-eds and editorials about Biden pardoning Hunter admitted that they were wrong after we've seen Trump maliciously prosecute Comey, James, McIver etc?

The number of cop + Black person interactions tends to go up, because the number of police officers tends to go up.

If you are a Black man that lives in a town with 400 cops, and one year the city hires an additional 400 cops for an 800 cop workforce?

Your chances of being pulled over just doubled

The number of people killed by cops each year, tends to go up, not because of "crime."

It tends to go up, because the probability of one of those interactions resulting in the death of a Black person stays relatively constant, while the number of cop + Black person interactions, goes up.

The vast majority of cop + civilian interactions, are between a cop and one of the 99% of people that are not in the 1% that does most of the violent crime.

Imagine in a given year, there are 400 million cop + Black person interactions.

400,000 of those result in excessive force.

400 in shooting.

Some important info before we continue:

Most people are not violent criminals.

Many of you have seen the stat that most ICE detainees (93%+) have never been convicted of any violent crime.

In a recent study done in Sweden, the most violent 1% of the population committed 63% of all violent crime.

Police hiring, training, police policy enforcement (prosecuting bad cops) and which laws we choose to enforce, all affect the cop shooting probability

But this number does not change much year to year. Because there's significant resistance to either changing the policies or changing the cops.🤷🏿‍♂️

The number of people killed by cops in a given year can be described by two things:

1) The number of interactions between citizens and cops

2) The probability of a cop + citizen interaction resulting in a cop shooting

The cop shooting probability is influenced by many things.

The first thing to understand, is that the number of people killed by cops is not connected to the "crime rate," (however you define that).

Every decade since the 80s has had less violent crime than the decade before. And yet every decade the number of cop killings goes... up.
🙂🙃

Here's why:

I've shared on here before, why more cops do not and cannot reduce the murder rate in US cities.

I've shared that criminal justice reformers have known what does work, and has worked in dozens of US cities. It's now driving record low homicide in Chicago and Baltimore♥️🕊️

Now let's talk cop killings

This guy called the Georgia Secretary of State and told him to find enough ballots so that he’d win the state. It’s ON TAPE

If our laws cannot handle a presidential candidate caught red-handed pressuring a state elections chief to overturn his opponent’s victory, then we need to change our laws.

Such classic gaslighting it's an instructive moment. The question is not whether generic is better or worse, it's that a list with more expensive brand names is not the same as a list with cheaper generics. Perverting that truth into an attack on those calling it out is Manipulation 101.
Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

The first official confirmation that Noem herself made the decision not to turn the planes around. A couple hundred men were tortured as a result — and soon after, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Trump admin’s Alien Enemies Act process was a total violation of due process.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

This is called “chain refoulment” and it’s illegal under both U.S. and international law. And the State Department and ICE know very well what Ghana is doing and simply don’t care.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.
