The reduction in sick days, guaranteed holidays, paid admin time and increase on admin work and callback days for teachers are also a terrible deal

Even if we ignore the real terms pay cut which we shouldn't #nzpol #Oct23Strike

Wondering whether anyone will be asking the regime about the weather in #nzqt today, and why they are killing climate change policy in the middle of a climate disaster.

Great turn out in Aotea Square for workers standing up against exploitation by this coalition of chaos. #nzpol

Today we stand up for public services and the hardworking people who keep them running. ✊ ✊
Where would we be without teachers, nurses, doctors and medical staff?!

It's hilarious that Luxon claims there are no hiring freezes in our health services, because everyone who works in healthcare knows well that funding cuts have meant staff are not being replaced, and haven't been for nearly two years. Call it what you will, but that's a hiring freezes to me. #nzpol

Lincoln Road has multiple pockets today and from my clinic office I can hear constant honking in support of the #Oct23strike.
This is a historic day for workers rights in Aotearoa New Zealand

Judith Collins statement that the mass strike this week is "political" is so meaningless. Like funding cuts to essential services is political, tax cuts to landlords paid for by hiring freezes leading to unsafe nursing staffing is political. Striking is a political act. So what? #nzpol

New from me: Just eight of the Government's 17 Roads of National Significance have already seen costs blow out by $5.1 billion - before any shovels are even in the ground.

The full programme would cost $44-$54 billion on the latest numbers.

$5b-plus blowout for eight Roads of National Significance
The Government's 17 Roads of National Significance will cost it at least $44 billion – enough to rebuild Dunedin Hospital 23 times over. Marc Daalder reports.

Just a reminder Dunedin hospital cost over run was about a 1/10th of this & they cut it immediately.

The tail pipe sucking idiotologues in National's cabinet are not good & proper people to run this country.

The minister has not even reverted to research or evidence for the maths curriculum changes, because there is no evidence to support them. The ministerial advisory group leading the curriculum rewrite has said this explicitly.

Also worth noting that our worst paid nurses in New Zealand, the ones whose pay equity claims were thrown in the trash by this government aren't able to join the strike today. But remember that primary health care, aged care and Māori health service nurses stand in solidarity with the strike.

Because there is a lot happening around the middle of today, to make it easier to find live events vs. general #NZPol or #Kikorangi discussion and overseas events, might I suggest people tag first person reports/ sharing live news & civil defence warnings with either #LiveStrike or #LiveStorm

Looking forward to hearing various NACTFirst govt ministers berate businesses and services for not being able to function in extreme weather whilst, simultaneously, telling us that climate change mitigations are too hard and too expensive.
