I wonder how many cigars JK Rowling smokes as she mumbles “I love it when a plan comes together” as she giggles, picturing all the children she has made feel sad and more alone today

📡 According to Ynetnews, Israel's #Eurovision 2026 participation was secured after a "months-long diplomatic campaign that unfolded largely behind the scenes".

A coordinated effort involved KAN executives, government advisers, and Israeli president Isaac Herzog's residence.

Also my controversial(?) take is that ADHD diagnoses are partially up due to improved recognition but also because we have created a world that is perfectly fine-tuned to make coping with normal life really, really difficult if you have any ADHD adjacent tendencies.
This just seems like the wrong end of the telescope to me. Review should be into barriers to employment, not diagnosis.

I really *do* have a fine motor condition, but in the 21st century this poses absolutely no barrier to me working in 90 per cent of jobs in the UK.

I think it says a lot about how our attitude to welfare has changed that the Christmas Bonus was brought in by Barbara Castle so that even the poorest families could afford a turkey and a few presents and now removing it would prompt protests and rising it would give the Telegraph an aneurism.
Remember, the UK is a country which has been paying a £10 Christmas bonus to pensioners since the 1970s, and yes, it was £10 in the 1970s and is still £10 today, and no, obviously it would be political suicide to take this increasingly meaningless sum away.

There are so many reasons I hugely dislike Rachel Reeves but this chess thing is just absolutely pathetic from the media, like you could actually go after her record in office instead of an absolute nothing from when she was *a child*

and the irony of that belief, during the ongoing mass-disabling event that is the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Absolutely this. The idea that 20% of a student body couldn't be disabled is an expression of ableism (not understanding disability) but also an implicitly normative statement -- that 20% of students shouldn't be disabled.
We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?
