This if one of the dumbest sentences I've ever read

Just learned that cacti are exclusively native to the Americas but there is a species that grows throughout central Africa that's I guess technically invasive called the mistletoe cactus and it looks like spiky purple tentacles with big pale balls growing on them and I hate it

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

These are directly linked. That fake reporter arrest video came out right after the real one gained steam. The point is to make you question reality, and you start to think that maybe both are fake. And most people aren't equipped with the skills to suss that out for themselves.

Because TikTok is an incredible place, every time we open the app now, we are shown that fake video of a reporter being arrested. Simultaneously, a bunch of commenters are convinced our video of state troopers in Broadview from yesterday evening is AI. Perfect, no notes

Not an unprecedented action, but certainly rare, and definitely not good. Still, not the crisis it's being made out as. The real issue is that it's in your face quid pro quo. Trump is exchanging public resources for personal favors. It's dictator shit. He's staking his personal claim on common good.

There's a common trend with the more dramatic freakouts at this administration. They'll do a bad thing for a worse reason and let everybody run with the most sensational aspect while the crux of the problem gets sidelined. Qatar isn't getting a military base. They're being trained on F-15s.

They're doofs. There's no master plan. They have goals, but they're making up the steps to get there as they go. That's why it looks so chaotic. Because it is. They don't actually know what they're doing. They're using strongarm tactics and barreling through failure after failure with brute force.

Murder doesn't require smarts

He began with wealth and power from childhood. You don't need to be smart to get what you want at that point. If these people were smart, they'd be better at it.

I don't know what this recent surge of love for John Carpenter's the Thing is all about but it can only make the world a better place

Republicans overstate Democrat extremism and Democrats understate Republican extremism, which includes making explicit white supremacist talking points on the floor and in the press. Voters aren't party members. This essay is a dangerous lie and publishing it is unconscionable.

Being neurodivergent means you over-explain EVERYTHING in hopes of clear communication, then get anxious that your over-explanation was irritating and actually made things more confusing 🫤

Needing multiple streams of income to stay afloat is a societal failure not a personal one. You should be able to afford a comfortable lifestyle with one job. You are not lazy.

I think this is a thing about fascists. People talk about Trump being charismatic, too. Do people think charisma is just being rich, pushy, and loud?

have said this before but i am very skeptical about weiss’s vaunted charisma

Bari Weiss, the incoming editor in chief of CBS News, once auditioned for a role on the hit daytime television show "The View," but tested so poorly with audiences that she "wasn't invited back," according to a new report.

Hostile Dimensions is not a horror movie. It's a very clever comedy, and I think a good one.

The c suite might finally be catching on to the fact that the loudest most irate voices are usually the most impotent, and that kowtowing to them hurts more than helps in the end

Libs of Tiktok, Elon Musk, and Robbie Starbuck put everything they had into trying to push a boycott of Netflix over LGBTQ characters in their shows.

Netflix ignored them and the stock is back up. Turns out bots don't actually cancel accounts.

One thing about American's widespread distrust and disapproval of the Supreme Court is that mainstream news coverage mostly doesn't dwell on stuff like standing, so people don't even begin to grasp how rigged the Court truly is www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...
