am I crazy? am I an asshole? I've just seen it so many times now, going from freely sharing all their art to juuuuust sharing enough to ask me to join their Patreon. Everybody has a right to ask money for their product but it almost feels like turning your back on your general audience

Artists need to get paid, I get that but I don't think you actually need to paywall your art, censor it, w/e to try an manipulate your audience onto your Pateron. I see Pateron as it's actual namesake - I like someone's stuff so I want to support them so they have time to make art!

Today's lukewarm take: Paterons should be something fans do to support an artist regardless of extra content. I dislike when an artist gets some sort of following, starts a Pateron and immediately paywalls all their art, feeding crumbs and wips and previews to their actual general audience
