Hi new folks! I'm a translator, editor, and game dev! I worked on stuff like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Voice of Cards, Dragalia Lost, plus neat stuff like FFXIV TTRPG + Chocobo and the Airship. Now I'm at TPCi!

Also, I don't discuss localization on here!

Oh, thanks for the heads up. I had actually DMed you about something else, so I'll try to email you instead.

Also, deep sigh at the legislation -_-

writing is hard, absolutely, but also the feeling of all your research and sources and information coming together as you make progress on the page and a coherent narrative starts to form is one of the most satisfying feelings imaginable so it's probably worth it

yeah it's funny, i turned puzzles up to lost in the fog and combat all the way down LOL. I think it's at least a good sign that i'm willing to play again despite the slogs at the end. feels like silent hill hahah
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
to their credit, annoying combat is pretty much a series hallmark at this point, but this one just has sooo much more of it--even more than SH2 remake, and that was already really pushing it.

I think the game's aesthetics, music, and story help it succeed overall in spite of the awful gameplay pacing in the second half. you just want to see the story but you've got areas that drag on and on and on and are FILLED with fights. it stops being scary and is just "ugh another monster room" 3/3
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
I played hard combat on the first playthrough, but woof, i'm knocking it down to story for the replays (which are basically required). 2/3
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
wow, the last 1-2 hours of Silent Hill f are TERRIBLE. why is there so much combat with the same five enemies?? did i need to fight the birthing monster 50 times? trying to enjoy the story (which is cool) but you're just forced to slog through a millions areas with a million fights. 1/3

In honour of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

his VO sounded SO good oh my god

dissidia 1 and duodecim were SO good and I am deeply sad the series went in the direction it did.

do not my friends become addicted to [dissiddia psp fighting games]. it will take hold of you, and you will begin to resent its absence
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
yeah, I wonder if the pressure of it not being a "load-bearing" entry meant that they didn't feel they had to check the same boxes and could experiment with narrative more
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
yeah, but def still a worthy follow-up, imo. in a way I think they brought it more in line with something like Tactics Ogre--you can't abuse the systems nearly the way you can in OG FFT, which is always closer to how I've seen TO.
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
I always thought it was underappreciated. I definitely prefer the OG for gameplay reasons, but I think it got hit by the same thing Chrono Cross did where people just wanted more of the exact thing its predecessor was and didn't give it a fair shake for what it actually delivered.
sjmtaelus.bsky.social
I like FFTA a lot and in think it was a much better story than folks gave it credit for (many just wanted FFT2), but the sanding-down of jobs and overbalancing make it more of a chore to play, IMO. The story, music, and visuals make it worth playing, but I think the OG handily beats it in gameplay.
apzonerunner.com
It's a close thing, but I actually think I prefer FFTA to FFT, and I think that its very simple and straight moral play is more compelling & invigorating than the labyrinthine brilliance of FFT. Which is why people still argue vehemently about if Marche was right or not

Hallowe'en post #11:
In Super Castlevania IV (Super NES), you can fully power up right before facing Dracula if you make your way down here with the invisible platforms and back up again.

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

Derek should be in everything, and this is a good start.

Many moons ago, in the nascent stage of my career, I did a small amount of scenario editing for what would become the Geofront's fan localization of Ys vs. Trails in the Sky. Now that project has finally coalesced into an official, sanctioned release. I'm grateful to be credited alongside this team.

I like the work you all are doing and want to see post updates, but could you please not put spoilers in the posts themselves?
