In the midst of the darkest of times, a hero stands up for what is right. The brutal, deliberate attack against Jewish Australians celebrating Hanukkah at #Bondi Beach today is an abomination. For those murdered while celebrating the 1st day of the Festival of Lights, may their memory be a blessing.
This guy disarming the terrorist at Bondi Beach, Australia, can only be described as hero.

Why aren't families having more babies?

This brand new paper argues that part of the reason is because childcare is so expensive.

"A 10% increase in the price of childcare leads to a 5.7% decrease in the birth rate"

👀 Here's Stuart Buck with some GOOD news about the research system

"When all institutions look the same, their output tends to be the same as well. Tens of thousands of scientists (usually government-funded) labor within the same constraints, incentives, and pressures to conform.

It's a tool for producing exploratory data analysis at scale to Excel, ready-formatted. I used it to export 3500 formatted pairs of crosstabs last night

Extremely proud of my former University of Bristol QStep student Chante Joseph - who stood out even as a second-year UG for her professionalism and excellence

I'd heard about this viral article but hadn't realised it was one of hers!

Is Having A Boyfriend Embarrassing Now?
“Being partnered doesn’t affirm your womanhood anymore,” writes Chanté Joseph. “It is no longer considered an achievement and, if anything, it’s become more of a flex to pronounce yourself single.’

Ní bheidh a leitheid arís ann is an overused phrase, but it could not be more apt than with Manchán Magan. He would tell you a story about the origin of the phrase, and why it's used more in certain parts of the country than others. He crammed so much into his 55 years, /1
