if you get an EV then you'll still be traffic. only you'll be electric traffic now.

what you _really_ want but just probably haven't come to terms with yet is less time in your life of being traffic, less being in a car.

this requires good, safe biking infrastructure as well as an e-bike for many.
280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles
E-bikes and scooters displace 4x as much demand for oil as all of the EVs in the world.

Took a before photo then struggled for an hour against bad tolerances and stripped threads on the tip of one of the longer bolts needed to affix the rack towers to the Buzz’s roof.

pretty decent pricepoints here. will lease reasonably well if they keep the lease cash spice-flow coming, even if residuals like now, 48-50% for a 24/12, for example.

231 mile nominal EPA range car feeling a bit optimistic today, even on snowy high resistance roads and in near-snow temps, shod with Nokians. The heat pump probably is helping.

(52F was in the heated garage with the door open so mixing in some outside air.)

Stretching, dead hangs, and then 3 light sets of each. Tried to do some Bosu ball plank stabilization things at end but tired. Repaired shoulder a bit sore.

and in other lease term-checking news, GM didn't budge at all on lease terms for Dec for the Sierra EV. they just totally killed the deal come October and are sticking with it.

there now remain 8 new 2025 Kia EV6 GTs for sale nationwide per cars.com, the closest of them 610 miles from me.

and fwiw, December lease terms are unchanged: 24/12 at 57% RV, 0.00187 MF, $16.8k lease cash (+ state/local if applicable); 36/10 at 52%, 0.00220, $16.5k.

I am really not impressed with the snow and ice traction of the Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires on our ID.Buzz. (Nokians weren’t available immediately when I got the Buzz 11 months ago.)

what'd be hilarious is if this off the cuff move by the dotard opened the US market to small Chinese EVs: if all they have to do is build them here (but not meet FMVSS, etc.) then that's a lower bar to entry than exists now.

I indeed saved 15% or more by switching to GEICO. more on the order of 28%.

(via my insurance broker. ain't nobody got time to do it on the phone oneself or fill out a million web forms with the same info.)

((and last year it didn't make sense to switch. this year I'm a better risk. go figure.))

math time! the question that I will seek to answer is how much money I could make in peak/off-peak arbitrage by cycling the various Powerwalls and expansion packs from 100 to 20% reserve state of charge.

here are the rates and hours I'm working with:

happy updating contributions to 401(k)/403(b)/457(b) plans to the new year's limit day, for those who celebrate

('tis $24.5k for 2026 if you're too young for the catch-up contributions, which kick in at age 50.)

I've had some tasty protein + caffeine drinks recently. Joyburst, sold through Costco at a much better price than from Bezos, is good

Slate: not so good. mocha latte and caramel latte flavors both gross

I haven't seen the fabled 57' Frito-Lay chip-hauler in a year or two, but I did spot a 57' trailer this morning here in Colorado. From the map one can see that it can travel to quite a few adjacent states while remaining legal.
