if you get an EV then you'll still be traffic. only you'll be electric traffic now.

what you _really_ want but just probably haven't come to terms with yet is less time in your life of being traffic, less being in a car.

this requires good, safe biking infrastructure as well as an e-bike for many.
280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles
E-bikes and scooters displace 4x as much demand for oil as all of the EVs in the world.

Update: K2 is taking care of me

"We have submitted a parts request for the updated replacement Mindbender walk mode kit on your behalf at no charge.

"The replacement kit we are sending you will include all necessary hardware and should address the issue you encountered."
Note that the bolt-on assembly with a hinge and the gold-painted metal lever thing that locks the boot into alpine mode is just totally missing on my left boot. Sheared off at the bolts.

That'd explain why they felt a bit loosey-goosey at the tail end of the season eh

REI technological advance of the year: when you return a purchase that was paid for in part with REI card rewards points then said rewards points go back to the card. no more getting paid out with awkward cash for like $10.68

I went shopping at REI, as I had the unsatisfactory prAna Stretch Zion Original to return and wanted to scope out the pants landscape.

(First I tried on a few XL MIPS ski helmets. And none fit satisfactorily. I have a really big head.)

Usual Zoom Ether shorts for context.

The distinctive tread pattern of the CrossClimate 1/2/3 is a marketing coup. Helps that it objectively tests well, too

Jog-walk around Sloan Lake, waiting out US Thai to open while out and about on errands. 6 x 2 min jog blocks in the mix.

Bonus shot of an E-Transit LWB high roof set up as a camper. Note the kitty lounging on the dashboard.

besides being out of date (2024 update--no 2025 EV6 GT, no non-WT GM Ultium trucks, etc.) this is also stupid because it should 100% be sorted by lb per hp, not some unsorted hot mess as it is now that ignores the weight part of that equation.

for you SPD types with these newfangled Trail model pedals and shoes like this: do you want the sole and the cage of the pedal to have positive contact when clipped in? (isn't that the point of having a cage? or just for when you don't clip in by choice or accident?)
the afternoon light caught my new biking shoes nicely

with that rounded toebox they look like large little kid shoes

which I guess they kinda are

more winning, self-bailing out farmers due to self-inflicted-by-tariffs idiocy. an economic ouroboros.

presumably this is just a legislative proposal backed by the WH. but in this era who knows what's up or down

engineer came back with how to shore up what was actually built at the mountain house to what should be in place wrt hot tub load reinforcement. and it's pretty reasonable. hopefully I can get this done posthaste, have it actually pass inspection, and then have one less thing on my mind.

Fancy thermostat install day with Jetson Home . He’ll also hook up the humidifier to the all knowing control unit but the software to drive said humidifier will be forthcoming in an OTA update.

wfh today. in theory the Jetson people should be coming by to install their fancy proprietary thermostat (+ app) + power monitor business, and hook up the disconnected-in-April whole house humidifier. but they aren't here yet.

Tonight's mini project to swap over my heated insole setup from my 2023-era AT boots to my current new-hotness dual-BOA alpine-only boots had a bit of a surprise twist:

Weakening universal HBV vaccination recommendations has accomplished nothing positive for public health. It is undoing a policy with decades of evidence, extensively demonstrated safety, and it is erroneously suggesting that there is some kind of substantive risk to the vaccine.

There isn't.

Home maintenance morning

Did the usual condenser care mini song and dance on the heat pump dryer

Changed the interior air intake filter for the ERV. Was fuzzy looking.

Did one run. Couldn’t see anything. Wife’s boots killing her. Plus the run was crowded, to add insult to injury.

So she shed her gear at the car, we each had a pastry and a hot drink, and somehow I haven’t migrated back out into the blizzard yet.

yes, the Washlet at the mountain house appears to have died. only 18 months did it live
