This thread has got me doing some deep thinking. I can't engage right now, but I want to assign it as reading for the end of the semester so we can talk about it as a class.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I had a thought. I've been questioned many times, why I put Trinidadian dialect in my novella that is set centuries in the future.
The main refrain was, wouldn't that have been phased out?

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

I think it's more the manner than the specific words. One of my students went out of their way to tell the dean of my college that I'm a good teacher. Right now, that's the best. It's real hard to think I'm making a difference sometimes (especially with the world as it is). So this was huge to me.

I get their "game" function. I just find it amusing that these games present worlds where you have to be able to fight bats and mutant gophers and what not.

I am not going to take health advice from a man who doesn't even have a medical degree and cannot pronounce the scientific names of basic vitamins.
I'm also not taking health advice from a man who uses AI to write health policy or has the intellectual capacity of a turnip.

Yeah, why would I get the new phone when the one I've got is still good, runs all the apps I care about, has decent battery life, and takes pictures and video just fine?
