This is my friend's cat. Its name is Cookie Swirl, and it disappeared in the American section of Charlotte airport on 11/10. We're asking for your help. She doesn't have any other socials, so if you can post it widely to see if anyone knows where it is. It's a little thing, but matters a lot to her.

Just watched some drone video from between Duvall and Monroe & oof, that’s not opening quickly. Still covered in water, mud, & a lot of debris. Also Snoqualmie Valley farms were hard hit. If you buy through a CSA, now is a great time to subscribe. Shopping at their farm stands helps them recover.

This is very good news and quite surprising. A previous disaster declaration request by WA state for a damaging bomb cyclone was denied, so it wasn’t at all guaranteed we’d see federal assistance for recent floods.

The question now is whether emergency relief will be followed by disaster relief.
I just received a phone call from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. Secretary Noem informed me that the president signed our request for an emergency declaration. We have also received written confirmation of that emergency declaration.

Shocker: MIL needed medical care (see:post last night). Luckily her route not flooded but it’s not like we can go help, our route is cut off. Exhausted.

I usually renew my National Parks Pass in December anyway, but if you buy a 2025 pass this month, it is valid until the end of December 2026 and has a significantly more attractive Roseate Spoonbill.

More than 250 people who were exposed to measles, including dozens of unvaccinated school-aged children, are quarantining in South Carolina as the state wrestles to contain an outbreak that has sickened more than 110 people.
Hundreds Quarantined in South Carolina as Measles Outbreak Shows No Sign of Slowing
The outbreak shows no signs of slowing, likely because of the affected area’s “lower-than-hoped-for vaccination coverage,” a state health official said.

Hot take: too many replays in the game now. Slowing it down to watch it over and over and over? Just stick with the call on the field.

Section 1 of the executive order is like "in order for this to mean anything, Congress must act." The rest of it is like "X department shall convene a task force to provide a list of recommendations etc. etc." It's completely toothless and this "blocking states" headline is brain-dead stenography.

The thing about this executive order is that he doesn't have that authority and states should ignore him

The fact that parts of Washington are seeing record-breaking flooding this week is not surprising given that 1) many locations saw record 24hr precipitation (well above 100yr ARI) & 2) near-record temperatures *simultaneously* (no snow in mtns, so all precip became runoff). #WAwx
