I have now served a stint as a grant adjudicator. It was stressful & a bit of a bloodbath. Not sure I want to ever do that again, but it was certainly educational. There's nowhere near enough money to go to all the deserving artists. Tax the rich and bring about UBI already.

It does make a difference. Writing is lonely work, and it often feels like we are pitching our word babies out into the void.
If you like a writer's work, tell them! Email, LinkedIn message, DM, even in person at an event. It can make a huge difference in their lives, especially right now with declining freelance budgets, layoffs, stagnant salaries, the threat of AI, and dwindling book advances.

They responded by calling me Shannon & sent me info specifically for residents of the place where I told them I did not live.
