One reason I like Waymo better than human ride share drivers is that robots don’t watch football while driving me to the airport.

They're not a "street safety technology", they're cars. They don't change or improve conditions for anyone outside the vehicles, they just add new variables. The only thing they do is let passengers like you pat yourselves on the back without the indignity of other people watching you do it
