The Valley of Fires (Carrizozo Volcanic Field) formed only 5,200 years ago when lava spilled out of Little Black Peak and Broken Back Crater (cinder cones/vents) covering the landscape with these black pāhoehoe lava flows. It feels like a combination of Hawaiian terrain with Southwestern flora. 🌿
Ripples of black lava and green plants including Sotol which look like yuccas
