I feel like coaching has changed a lot over the years but not even just scheme or anything in the playbook, I mean socially. I feel like the younger coaches are better at being positive and giving their players praise when they do well. It's not so much "do this better next time" its "you did great"

I don't know how else to describe it, I think younger coaches are just better at being honest without being mean because we all know nobody responds well to negative criticism when its in a mean way. you can provide constructive criticism while staying positive, they're helping not accusing.

Love this. It's perfectly parallel to how I teach music, with the accompanying reassurance that we are here to make mistakes. That's the literal goal of the lesson, to get things wrong so we can learn how to do better in the future. Without errors there is precious little improvement to be had

for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

Reminder that no one is letting interns run their socials anymore. It’s a hugely important channel for marking and comms and there are many smart, talented people who work in that field (myself included). When you joke about the intern running socials, you look like an idiot (and a jerk).
