I expect there will be at least two musical theater venues in said theme park, with rotating shows so each cast can get a reasonable number of nights off per week?

The prompt did imply absolutely ludicrous amounts of money, after all….

Yeah. I just go back to that initial description of the beast and can’t help but see mango Mussolini. But Gavin? He is empty inside. A haircut and a smile and a knife in the back.

I’ve started thinking of him as “The Smiler.”

This is, of course, a reference to Transmetropolitan.

They are pathologically incapable of seeing the value of art for its own sake.

They are allergic to uncontrollable novelty.

If by “like you” you mean Cooking for one because the kiddo is with their other parent, slowly cleaning the giant mess that is your life while an episode of game changer is on the tv…

Then yeah.

"Sock Full of Nickels" is the name of my prosperity-gospel worship band...

I have not - Guessing I have something to go look up and add to the pile?

It's been a few years (feb 2019) since I read it, but I enjoyed the magic-as-tech universe in this one. But... I have a soft spot for magic in SPAAAAACE kinds of properties. The rest of my book club had very, very different opinions and were quite vocal about it.

🤷 not every book is for everyone.

woo! I actually read this one... I think last year, or maybe 2023. I really enjoyed how big and weird the world @lindanagata.bsky.social gave us is, and the next book in the series, "Silver" is definitely on my TBR.

@kithrup.bsky.social , an author promoting their book sale, in case you missed it ;)

Just an FYI I means LDS; I haven’t enough experience with most other religious organizations and would hesitate to put a blanket statement about all of them out there.

But I can see how my initial skeet might be more broadly interpreted than intended.

That’s fucking hilarious. Anyone he has read any of your books would know you aren’t just by counting the number of times you use the word “fuck.”

Just finished the latest October Daye novel from @seananmcguire.bsky.social , entitled “Silver & Lead.”

As expected a wonderful outing, even if there were some events in the back half that made me wondering I was going to have to riot.

Here’s hoping I get to see Toby and crew again soon…

Sounds more interesting than the canned and homogenized scripts marvel has been pumping out for the last decade…

The second illustration was a complete surprise, hiding deep in the book after an important piece of story-within-a-story.

Page 96, for anyone who might happen to want to see exactly what this cat is smirking about. ;)

I was fortunate enough to have my book signed and personalized by the author, who gave me two wonderfully silly illustrations, too.

I have excluded her actual signature as the page also has my name on it.
A sharpie-drawn picture of a cat riding a dragon like a horse.

I have finally finished reading @charliejane.bsky.social ‘s most recent novel, “Lessons in Magic & Disaster,” and I have to say: I think this is her best book yet. It is grounded, completely personal, and wonderfully whimsical.

Worth your time.
The cover of the book “Lessons in magic and Disaster” by Charlie Jane Anders.

There is a tagline that reads “witchcraft is hard. Families are harder.”

The background is purple, cracked concrete through which daisies have pushed through and taken root.

Th at could be a really interesting take on the whole thing…

There’s a lot of metaphor there, especially around gaslighting and cycles of abuse….

Thanks for posting that reminder.

It helps me feel like I'm not some crazy guy in the wilderness for being willing to take popular authors in the context of their actual behaviors.

You know what? good job recognizing it, and posting publicly in multiple places you were wrong. That's not a common thing.

thank you for that. This has been a very amusing thing to watch...

Also, it unfortunately increases my despair for the males of the race. What a shitshow my gender really is. <sigh>

I wonder if there's some correlation to the de-emphasis on arts and music in public schools with the drop in musical ambition and literacy.

That, combined with the sheer ease of electronic music creation vs. learning the theory and physical action of at least one physical instrument...
