RFK Jr. keeps repeating this ridiculous, ignorant bullshit.

Trust in expertise is literally a vital feature of both science and of representative democracy.

I wrote a whole-ass thread about it last time around; maybe worth revisiting.

RFK Jr: We need to stop trusting the experts... Trusting the experts is not a feature of science or democracy, it's a feature of religion and totalitarianism.

Korol is a US citizen. Her family hasn’t heard from her since she was taken, public charges haven’t been released—what crime did she even commit? 2nd-Degree Woodwinding?—and there has been no explanation for her “renditioning” across state lines.

We’ve moved into a new phase of Trump lawlessness.
A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

‘Taking us citizens out of state to detain them without charge is a new action from the Feds and should be opposed,’ her band said

The Supreme Court’s majority right wing indicated in oral arguments that they think racism is over on the same day that the vice president defended the “I love Hitler” guy, and that the NYT reported that the current administration plans to accept only white, English-speaking refugees.

Meanwhile, Justice Gorsuch is nodding along to oral arguments at the Supreme Court about how there’s no racism in politics anymore
This guy was a clerk for Justice Gorsuch. Anyone want to argue this is not a racist (and damn stupid) taunt?

That’s $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget. All to one country. To rescue one friend of the president’s.
Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

Remember, brown 13-year-olds are hardened menaces to society, but 30-something Republican Hitler afficionados in positions of power are just li’l guys.

A noose was hung from a tree on the pathway to the “Black parking lot” in high school at the same that “Re-nig Obama” stickers were getting passed around, but I’m supposed to believe someone telling me that they had no clue that the Republican Party was steeped in racism growing up. Yeah okay.
Like it is totally tragic that they don't care what white liberals think of them anymore and that the balance of power is such that they are able to do even more of this shit consequence-free but they were always calling us monkeys and hanging nooses at school and getting away with it. that matters.
Am I saying that *all* Young Republicans have always been this way? No.

But a substantial # of Young Republicans *were* radicalized in the 1990s. They may have had to try and keep their racism and bigotry covert, but that’s not the same as saying they weren’t racist.
This is generalizing based on personal anecdata.

The 1990s gave us a bunch of events that sowed seeds & the harvest is now. Ruby Ridge, Waco, Oklahoma…all carried out by “oppressed” white men.

And if you tell me these weren’t mainstream - well Gingrich, Pat Buchanan, Limbaugh, Brooks Bros Riots

I‘m staring at this post like I was a Black student in the 90s and 2000s and had to share a campus with racist Young Republicans
My parents' generation was super racist, but they took pains to hide it from us. So a lot of young conservatives in the 90s and early aughts were earnest small government and/or evangelical types.

As I said, the overt racists and radicals had to form their own orgs.

JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."

Every time you see Mike Davis do Mike Davis things, think about Gorsuch reportedly helping land Davis a job at DOJ, then choosing him as a clerk when he was on the 10th Circuit, then choosing him as a clerk when he was on the Supreme Court.
Hakeem Jeffries posted pictures of two Rep. Members posing with “Young Republicans” who were part of a racist text thread (as reported by Politico).

In response, Mike Davis (well-connected in Trump World & on the Hill) called Jeffries a “house slave” for George Soros - proving Jeffries’ point.

We are so lucky to have @lollardfish.bsky.social in the History dept at UMN and now we are even luckier to have his incredible voice and perspective as an Op-Ed contributor to the @startribune.com .
Saying “retarded”, calling people “morons” and other ableist and saneist slurs, is still totally fine. Even amongst otherwise decent people.

As we watch special ed being dismantled, public health & Medicaid being destroyed… it’s especially painful to remember our erstwhile allies are still ableist
Something really struck me watching @willsommer.bsky.social @samsteindc.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social discuss the “I love Hitler” chat

Tim was reflecting on all the casual slurs used in the “young” Republicans’ chat, and he censored all of them except “retarded”

This is the same guy who just called Hakeem Jeffries a “house slave” for Soros.

There is nothing light-hearted or good-humoured about these folks. Just racism, misogyny, ableism, anti-semitism…. Allllll the way down.
