This morning I was filming ICE abducting sometime in Petworth. One of the agents told me "the last US citizen that did this he put in cuffs all the way to the courtroom".

Auspicious start for the new CBS News, laundering unattributed cop shit-talking through the incoming editor-in-chief’s blog and failing to correct a misspelling of the story subject’s name in the web headline for three days.

People have been eager to read what this former prosecutor at one of the nation’s preeminent U.S. Attorney’s Offices has to say since she resigned in protest and out of principle—she stood up to Emil Bove!—and … this is what she decided to write about?

This framing is a bit of a choice:
What happened: Ilya Shapiro and the Federal Society wanted an event on anti-semitism at NYU. Campus officials proposed another day, worried about the anniversary on Oct 7. After pushback, they relented. Is this a cancelation?

Also, despite the headline, only one law school is mentioned in the piece. This is a classic misinformation tactic.

One of these days congress really just needs to ban the shadow docket, force cameras in scotus, pass ethics mandates, pass high penalties for a breach of those ethics and maybe it should include an unpaid suspension
sarahburris.bsky.social
If the cases aren’t resolved there’s no reason to establish it as law then and even less of a reason for any other court to follow the ruling.

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

Cool. So should lower courts should simply disregard shadow docket cases?

This does nothing whatsoever to help end the Supreme Court's legitimacy crisis.

THREAD. Did you know that at about 1/3 of all stranger homicides in the U.S. are perpetrated by police? But there's something hidden here that is important to understand in this authoritarian moment.

To hell with judicial decorum. Liberal Justices should just go on podcasts and do TikTok videos at this point.

If you wonder why lower federal court judges are talking to the press, it's because of stuff like this
jjgass.bsky.social
If I were a lower-court judge, I’d find this SCOTUS demoralizing.

District court hears evidence, enters an injunction. Circuit court hears government’s arguments for the extraordinary remedy of a stay, denies it.

SCOTUS: Have a stay, administration. Get rid of trans soldiers. Moot the injunction.

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

52% of Americans say Trump is “doing what he promised.” But not all those people *like* what he’s doing! That is key context for interpreting this number, but was notable missing from a viral CNN segment (that the White House later turned into a press release)
