For your #Noirvember viewing pleasure, here’s another post from the vault. My @crimereads.bsky.social piece from a couple of ago on under appreciated American neo-noirs of the first half of the 1970s. I still think this list is pretty solid.

I’ve contributed a wee bio of Lizabeth Scott for this forthcoming release. hammerfilms.com/products/sto...
Stolen Face Limited Collector's Edition
Film Noir femme fatale Lizabeth Scott gives a searing performance in this macabre melodrama that offers a dark twist on the Pygmalion myth.

Currently watching Sky Arts’ Classic Movies episode about The Railway Children and imagining everybody in Yorkshire cringing at the mispronunciation of Keighley.

I cried again at the “daddy, my daddy” clip though.

I was nicknamed Babs at uni, although it didn't really stick. When I started work, there were so many Sarahs I suggested they call me Babs instead. Nearly 30 years on, that's all I'm known as to colleagues. Nobody I've met outside the office ever uses it; I'm always Sarah.
I have unfollowed people on social media who have called me Andy. It’s not my name. I am not an Andy. You might as well call me Ronald. Call people by the name they want.

Whether you're a fan of his humour or not, it doesn't matter – this will be a fascinating chat with one of the nicest men in the world. Me and @real-meaning.bsky.social hung out with him backstage at a @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social event last month, and he and his wife were adorable.

Catching up with The Footage Detectives on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social The letter about street artists reminded me of when me and a mate gave it a go in Sheffield in the early 1990s. We took £2.35; it cost us £2.50 return on the train. Maybe said a lot about our talent…

Where did you get that tile?

Isn't it a funny one or
Just the proper style?

I would like to have one,

My favourite of Hammer’s Frankenstein films. Freddie Jones is brilliant here.
Hammers fifth and arguably finest crack at creation. Superbly crafted grim gothic nihilism strikingly shot with the fantastic Cushing in cruel mode. 1969.

Hammer’s Dracula
Dead of Night
The Satanic Rites of Dracula
The Curse of Frankenstein
The Exorcist
The Stone Tapes
Gremlins
Frenzy
Is The Seventh Seal a horror movie? It is one of my favourite films of all time, but I never refer to it as a horror movie and now I'm not sure why.

Thought it was going to be slim pickings in Beverley today, but there was a late flurry. Particularly pleased with the Public Eye tie-in (£2!). Shame the Oxfam sticker won’t come off The Ipcress File without taking some of the cover with it.
