I absolutely love how the inflatable costume is taking off for protest! It offers protection in so many fucking ways but if they go into battle, we will need to level the costumes up for extended dancing in tear gas smoke. Let’s talk 🧵🧵🧵🧵

You gotta give ‘em hop.
A tweet from the Anonymous account says, “Make sure the dude in the frog costume in Portland knows he's an icon.” The image is a stylized poster of a frog wearing a stars-and-stripes scarf with the word “HOP” below, in the style of the Obama “HOPE” poster.

Unpopular opinion: I actually love self-checkout. Of course, I'm so introverted that when the pandemic shutdown happened my life barely changed.

My ideal shopping experience is to have customer service people sitting in comfort somewhere I can go ask them questions, and to otherwise be left alone.

These are the same kind of weasels who would’ve called George Washington & America’s revolutionaries “terrorists.” They spend their days sucking up to King Trump & demonizing peaceful protest just as some in America sought to appease King George III.

Looking forward to No Kings Day.
Johnson describes planned No Kings rally as ‘hate America,’ ‘pro-Hamas’ gathering
Organizers largely blew off the rhetoric, but some Democrats online criticized the tone.

This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.

College Sara (c. 1987) was an early adopter of the Bettie Page revival bangs look with neo-Victorian/proto-Goth tendencies. Also extremely, unbelievably nerdy. Like "I read The Silmarillion at 15 and liked it, also had D&D in the pink box" nerdy.

The US federal attack on Portland has resulted in the best advertisement for a city that I have ever seen. Round-the-clock joy, community solidarity and silliness that much of the West has lost and longs for.
saraamis.bsky.social
Yes, but...the persistent myth that cruel practices are somehow "efficient" makes people more willing to turn a blind eye. The most common version of this is less public outcry abt police violence bc of all the TV shows where "rogue" (aka violent) cops are depicted as successfully fighting crime.

In Portland, an ambulance was summoned to the ICE office to treat an injured protester (not clear how he was injured). But when the patient was loaded inside, ICE officers refused to let the ambulance leave and threatened to shoot the ambulance driver: www.wweek.com/news/2025/10...
Documents Allege a Federal Agent at Portland ICE Threatened to Shoot an Ambulance Driver
Feds delayed medics who had come to pick up an injured protester. Then, according to confidential incident reports, the agents became aggressive.

My hot take is that none of these are structure. These are all recipes that describe structure.

Structure is the Salt, Fat, Acid Heat of writing.

3-Act/Hero's Journey etc are recipes.

You can make great meals without using a recipe if you understand the principles of structure.
ddwardiswriting.bsky.social
So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

ICE has been deployed to *provoke* civilians, not to protect them. They want to throw tear gas canisters and get people on the streets riled up, all to create footage for Fox News and Newsmax, et al., that will be used as a pretext for imposing martial law to lower voting rates in Democratic cities.

The only violence I’ve been seeing in Portland is from the so-called Feds!!!

Keep sharing these videos; it’s evidence.

The lawyer for Marimar Martinez (the woman shot by CBP on October 3) seems to think the communications that led to Tricia McLaughlin's claims about the shooting might start disappearing -- he's asking for a preservation order.

MOTION FOR A PRESERVATION ORDER
Defendant, Marimar Martinez, by and through her attorneys, Cheronis & Parente LLC,
pursuant to the relevant provisions of Rule 2 and 16 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, as
well as the Due Process and Effective Assistance of Counsel Clauses of the Fifth and Sixth
Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, respectfully requests that the Court enter a
preservation order for the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to preserve and
maintain any and all records, emails, text messages, documents, notes and other materials related to
the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Ms. Marimar Martinez and the gathering of
information for the October 4, 2025, press release from Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued
by DHS titled “Vehicles Again Used as Weapon in Attack against DHS Law Enforcement, Officers
Forced to Fire Weapon on Armed Woman in Chicago.” In support thereof, Ms. Martinez states as

- Everyday we must remind people that gestapo agents and their enablers are committing atrocities. This is an ethnic cleansing. These are crimes against humanity. And they will be held accountable.

This morning I was filming ICE abducting sometime in Petworth. One of the agents told me "the last US citizen that did this he put in cuffs all the way to the courtroom".

It’s worth noting that when he decided to speak out about his unconstitutional ICE detainment, DHS accused him of assault.

They lie.

They blame the victims.

George did nothing wrong. He was just trying to get to work and was hit with chemical munitions and detained for three days.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

I'm wondering how much of US protests are being seen on the news and/or via the internet in other countries. Do you know of the Emergency Naked Bike Ride? (in Portland, naturally). How about the frogs? Catholic priests marching down to the ICE facility in Chicago and all but exorcising it?

Chicagoland is a friendly, safe, vibrant, & fun place. I’m very happy my kids have grown up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of the city, & in Evanston. They’re both wonderful places.

But ICE is attacking us. People are doing everything possible to protect their neighbors. But it’s hard.
