Thanksgiving week is Burning Man for people with bad food opinions

On Bluesky, thanksgiving is the time of year when all the best people on this site roll out their worst takes.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

On one of the new Acela trains rn and I am not pleased to inform you that these trains are way worse than the YouTubers have said. The bathrooms are so much worse than the old Acelas.

I'm sure that overworked, underpaid gate agents and flight attendants are just so excited to have "enforce a vague dress code suddenly forced on them by the feds" added to their responsibilities.

I often have conversations with suburbanites that go something like this:
Them: "How do you like living in Arlington?"
Me: "it's so convenient, everything I need is within a half mile"
Them: "I wish I had that where I live"
not everyone who lives in the suburbs, loves the suburbs
YIMBYs often absolutely cannot admit this because it suggests that you can only achieve so much by upzoning the city. In fact some of the biggest gains from upzoning, I’d argue, are to be found in UPZONING THE SUBURBS, allowing low-density burbs to become moderate-density burbs.
The level of denial in the replies is amazing. Lots of people like living in the suburbs. That’s just all there is to it.

I've had American highway engineers tell me that we can't improve existing crosswalks, because a pedestrian may feel that a safer crosswalk entitles them to step into the crosswalk without waiting for a gap in traffic.
Drivers stop at crosswalks in Poland now because they passed presumed liability, and they ran a public awareness campaign to promote it. The driver is presumed to be at fault if they hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The zebra stripes in Poland have magical power that the ones in America don’t. Even on a fast divided highway, a pedestrian in the shadows, well back from the curb, can stop traffic.

"We can't make the pain of federal workers a political albatross for Republicans, so we have to make the pain of people losing their healthcare a political albatross for Democrats"
I think mike's point is worth engaging with

"make americans' pain a political albatross for republicans" is fine but then what, is what he's basically saying. maybe there is a smart answer to that question
