This story is extraordinary even by 2025 standards. Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, made a deal with Bukele and agreed to renege on informant agreements in a years-long DOJ investigation into MS-13, totally undercutting credibility of such agreements.

Rubio promised to betray U.S. informants to get Trump’s El Salvador prison deal
To secure U.S. access to President Nayib Bukele’s notorious CECOT prison, Rubio agreed to turn over several MS-13 leaders central to a long-running Justice Department investigation.

I know that we’re not party to UNCLOS and that the murder part is worse, but this might have violated multiple pieces of private and international law as well as the sacred duty to render aid to sailors in distress.
UPDATE: COLOMBIA’s President says 🇺🇸 government (Trump) “committed murder” and bombed a fisherman with no ties to drugs

“The boat was adrift and had its distress signal up due to an engine failure”

But we have a good security cooperation relationship with the country, and it's been good for both sides to maintain mil-mil engagements even when the civilian/political side has been strained.

I wonder how much pull the new SOUTHCOM CCDR will have to keep the SC stuff going. Just an own goal...

KATAPULT German magazine drew a stark map: the area of Ukraine under Russian occupation laid over other countries. Put it on France — it blankets almost all of Normandy and part of Île-de-France. On Poland — about half of Mazovia. On Germany — all of Brandenburg and Berlin. 👇

My friendly advice for any news outlet struggling to now cover the Pentagon would be to adopt a COCOM-based strategy for coverage. Send reporters down to Tampa and Miami and Colorado Springs and have them develop sources there. The COCOMs were often “leakier” than the Building anyway.

It's official: Speaker Johnson just cancelled all votes in the House next week.

The next scheduled voting day is 10/27; the last time the House was in session was 9/19.

Always tip your waiter 20%, even if the service was meh and they weren’t particularly charming. Unless they were downright horrible, don’t go below that. If they were great, consider more than 20%.

J. D. VANCE: We need to end DEI.

MONKEY’S PAW: (raises one finger)
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

Kinda seems like whether or not the president has the power to assassinate people with no due process, no input from Congress, no review, no oversight, and with no obligation to provide anyone with any information or evidence other than “trust me” is an important test of our democracy.
