love to live in a world where all my personal data is relentlessly harvested so that megacorps can feed it into their all-knowing algorithms and yet somehow the end result is that algorithm going “we think you’d like Clarkson’s Farm”

Things used in everyday life are the real archaeological treasures! These sewing #needles were made from animal bone some 15,000 years ago. Some designs simply don't need to be improved, because form and functions were perfectly matched from the start. Form follows function! 🧵1/2

Today, November 29th I'm at Ad Gefrin, Museum and Distillery in Wooler, Northumberland. I'll be making replicas of Post-Roman/Anglo-Saxon pottery. Lots of other craftspeople and local food producers here. Come along if you're in the area 🏺

So, happy 50th anniversary to Melody Maker’s review of Bohemian Rhapsody: “Queen, with a suitably baroque vocal orchestration, contrive to approximate the demented fury of the Balham Amateur Operatic Society performing The Pirates of Penzance”

Reading letters from the Princess Liselotte of Palantine, the German sister-in-law of Louis XIV, and it's wild because she had this super informal writing style that almost sounds like modern texts

Like at one point she goes "wish to god my son didn't love holding chunks of bread like a peasant"

This is a good time to remind everyone that the HK government has been trying to get rid of bamboo in order to cater to their pals in the China steel industry who cannot get into the HK construction market.

This was a regulatory/safety failure.

Not a materials one.
Western media fearmongering about bamboo scaffoldings as unsafe and outdated while most of their SFHs and low-rise buildings are entirely made of wood

Finished listening to The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett last night and I really liked it a lot. It's proper fantasy but also proper deductive-reasoning detective murder mystery. I am moving straight on to the next book in the series but if you have recs for fantasy or scifi crime books pls 👇

182 years ago, on the 28th of November 1843, England and France recognized Hawaiian independence. This day is still celebrated as the Hawaiian Independence Day (or Lā Kūʻokoʻa) by proponents of Hawaiian sovereignty. Hawaii became an American territory in 1900 and a state in 1959. #otd #history 🗃️

Nephew: How???
Me: I went to the doctor and they gave me some medicine
