Unless the person follows up with "...because I've internalized them to the point they're effortless" I always side eye anyone who says they want the mechanics to "get out of the way" of their game.

Too often the speaker means they want to ignore rules.

One thing I think gets confusing in discussions of RPG mechanics is the way people sometimes use "the mechanics get out of the way" to mean "I can ignore the mechanics"/"we didn't need to roll dice all session"

This is horrifying. Now she'll be placed with men in prison where she is at extreme risk of being raped and sexually assaulted. And then she has to register as a sex offender.

This is all because a man was ashamed he was attracted to a trans woman.

This is now the blueprint for men to control trans women. Have sex with them and then threaten to go to police unless they do what he wants. It's ripe for abuse from men who will weaponize their shame. It also builds their narrative of trans women being sexual predators even when the victim.

A man gets a blowjob from a trans woman and his friends make fun of him so he goes to the police to claim she lied about being a woman. She was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to nearly 2 years in prison because of a man's shame.

Some people are taking this as a sign to jump ship which is entirely their prerogative. The way I see it though moderation sucks everywhere. There's no perfect solution. We can't go back to 2015 twitter no matter how much people want it.

Mastodon is abstruse and byzantine. It almost feels deliberately so.

The issue with Bluesky is that the moderation team has a glass jaw when it comes to criticism. They seem to be pampering big name chuds and shutting down concerns from minorities and marginalised groups. Same as it ever was.

There's a reason I didn't stay with Mastodon the first time I tried it when Twitter started getting shit and the reason is it's fucking miserable and full of tech nerds and no one else.
