The word "doomerism" is horribly abused on here. Some of you use it as code for "telling me what I don't want to hear" and it's childish.

I went to an Indigenous makers winter market today in MTL and it had so many beautiful pieces of art and work from people. I'm still 😍😍😍

Universities are assembling larger and larger teams to deal with academic integrity issues--mostly focused on AI--while simultaneously holding AI "writing" contests, AI-themed events, "hey, come play with these fun tools!" The messages are so mixed, it's criminal. Because AI is bloated with money.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have made a HUGE breakthrough towards a UNIVERSAL antiviral. By targeting sugar molecules found on the surface of many viruses that SHARE structural similarities, they identified FOUR compounds that successfully BLOCKED infections from SEVEN different viruses.

Nationalism cannot survive without oppression and marginalization because there always has to be "others" / opposition. Nationalism always turns authoritarian.

If you're a student in my class, I don't know anything about this bill. Never heard of it. Doesn't exist.

I was a French immersion student—I know it's tough to learn a new language as an adult. But a group of NDP candidates telling a Québec audience how important their language is was embarrassing. Singh, for his other shortcomings, had better command of French than any of this lot

I felt this way about the last event that introduced the candidates too. They really needed a tech person and producer/coordinator it was so poorly organized.
Last night's NDP French language debate exposed a party that doesn't seem serious about rebuilding after the departure of Jagmeet Singh

The party's livestrteam links were faulty, and candidates weren't particularly engaging, mainly because the collective level of French was atrocious🧵

One of the teenage boys that lives above me is in a singing phase and we get to hear him howl on the daily. It is kind of adorable and only mildly annoying.

Yes and it is notable that attacking “cancel culture” is pretty obviously an attack on cultivation of pro-social values, and an attack on social consequences for speech supporting bad values.

Trudeau-era environment minister Steven Guilbeault has published a resignation letter detailing the reasons for his departure from Carney's cabinet.

He directly cites today's MOU:

They don't seem to cite the source of the image and don't mention AI use in the acknowledgments. All that aside, the image offers NOTHING to the reader either.

And they paid for Open Access!?

Embarrassing.
Hey @nature.com, have you got an explanation for how the hell THIS happened? & especially why you accepted a paper with such a bizarre piece of genAI slop in it?!
& more to the point, why we should take you seriously at all going forward?

On threads they're once again framing this as a Masterful Gambit by the prime minister.

I swear Carney could frack the greenbelt and some people would be like "you don't understand, Carney is playing chess while the conservatives are playing checkers!!!"
Genuinely feels like there's been a coup within the Liberal party thanks to Carney and his bros.

Not to say Trudeau's Liberals were much better (they bought a pipeline!) but Carney is a full-blown red tory and I'm shocked more Liberals aren't outraged their party has been usurped like this.
Super cool that we've got a deal for a path towards a pipeline that's tied to a carbon capture project, as if that makes it okay

when carbon capture one of the most expensive and least effective options for addressing climate change, and oil companies often use it to EXTRACT MORE OIL!!!!

fuck man

Is there a decent private keyboard out there for Android yet?

I don't mind paying if it's worth it.

The one I used for a bit hadn't updated in years and doesn't seem to exist anymore.

As mentioned in the clip, we don't see the govt at a political level working with Indigenous nations in so-called QC - not even leftist separatist parties like QS.

I'd be totally up for supporting QS and separation if it included Indigenous sovereignty as well.
Bill 1 is a provincial constitution Quebec is looking to pass that focuses on French culture and states Quebec people form a nation.

However, the bill is being challenged due to the question of where Indigenous sovereignty fits into the new bill.

Doug Ford *falsely claiming* he has the power to audit his enemies when he doesn’t actually have that power is still a news story

But it’s kind of a different story than one uncritically accepting the premise that the Premier of Ontario can order the federal government to audit his enemies
