And they didn’t even index the levels where taxation applied, else it would be ~$73K/96K today (single/married). At least they did something to address a system that was paying benefits for longer than imagined when it was set up (average person never reached 65). No Congress has done much since.

The corporate influence needs to be removed from the Democratic party in order to get anything significant passed. The Ds ruled the U.S. House for decades in the past century.
Only 65 members of Congress, most Ds, have refused to take corporate PAC money. That means that 470 are influenced by it.

My take? He blew the first one he ever took. Now, they’re tracking the decline. I’d bet my hot coffee on it.
