BREAKING: For a second time in a week, a grand jury in Virginia has REFUSED to INDICT NY AG Letitia James .

99.6% of all cases presented to a federal grand jury result in an indictment.

The chances of the same case being brought to a grand jury and failing twice are about 1:40,000

This is a truly remarkable moment. Simultaneously debunking Kristi Noem’s lie in real-time and elevating the story of a veteran who was deported under Trump & Noem’s dehumanizing, belligerent deportation policy.
MAGAZINER: How many veterans have you deported?

NOEM: We haven't deported veterans

MAGAZINER: We are now joined on Zoom by a combat veteran you deported to Korea

This is a nakedly thuggish and corrupt administration. People who support it should be treated as corrupt thugs.
A media mogel with important merger business before the FCC says he has "great conversations" about it with Trump, while Trump for his part speaks openly about the kind of ownership he wants to see at CNN, a news network he detests.

Apologies for yet another thread with a hate read of a Douthat joint, but we need to talk about the role the credulous "center-right" is playing in normalizing fascistic illiberalism in the US. Kolvet is a rabid Islamophobe and anti-trans hatemonger, but you'd never know that from this interview.

We have evidence to suggest that Antifa is headquartered in Mongolia and has opened diplomatic channels with a "Great Khan."
GLASHEEN: Antifa is our primary concern right now. That's the most immediate violent threat we're facing

BENNIE THOMPSON: Where is antifa headquartered?

GLASHEEN: ... ... ... we are building out the infrastructure right now

THOMPSON: What does that mean?

One thing that @thefarce.org and I found when working on a video on tariffs is this superb podcast, which is totally lowkey, mostly two host reading off futures, in between debunking the bullshit the Administration tries to feed farmers.

One thing that's evident over at Xitter is the extent to which Trump's $12B donation to farmers is being used as a propaganda vehicle by farm state right wingers to lie about Trump "saving" these farmers.

Alcohol literally destroys nearly every organ in the body, not to mention vehicle related deaths.

One thing I've learned as a media critic involves scale. The tools of criticism work within certain boundaries like the metaphor in use here: five-alarm fire. Our imaginations can handle that. The PR team will respond. "I'm running my ideas for CNN past the president" is too huge to be criticizable.

Stuff with the US and Venezuela is bad and likely to get worse, but this seized tanker is reportedly owned by a Russian oligarch, and was sanctioned by the US Treasury in 2022 due to suspected involvement in illegal oil smuggling with Iran. Plus breaking maritime law re: flags.

WOW. So this is obviously a huge violation of this man's rights, and it illustrates a few things we're seeing broadly:

- DHS officers are ignoring peoples' IDs and instead requiring screening through their own systems
- Confirms @404media.co's reports of use of DHS's facial recognition app.
