Unbelievable.

As in, literally, not credible.
RAJU: Last week you were very critical of Biden's use of the autopen. But Trump admitted on 60 Minutes to not knowing he pardoned a crypto billionaire who pleaded guilty to money laundering. Does that also concern you?

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know anything about that. I didn't see it. I'm not sure.
Great effort by local restaurant to step up for the community in a crisis. Heartwarming, until you remember that it's being brought about by a bunch of authoritarians and fascists who kill thousands worldwide and at home while giving tax breaks to billionaires rather than feed/medicate the needy.
@govpritzker.illinois.gov How about getting the ISP to, you know, protect protesters in Broadview and elsewhere from the federal thugs? Wouldn't take much work for them to line up between them and turn to face the ones who're assaulting citizens. They're already there.

More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."
In the 1st question of his brief interview with Mamdani. Anderson Cooper reports Trump’s strongman threats to punish NYC if the Mayoral candidate is elected, as if he gets to select where funding goes according to his whims, & then asks whether voters will find it “worth the hassle” to vote for him.

Here's a good recent example of what I mean, where a Democrat pushes back instead of accepting a Trump-friendly distortion as the premise.

Thanks @hankhoffmanct.bsky.social for alerting me to it, @corybooker.com for sharing/praising it, and especially @neguse.house.gov for doing it.

Thank you Congressman Neguse for laying it plain.
Straight up lies
Kristi Noem: "No American citizens have been arrested or detained. We focus on those who are here illegally. And anything you would hear or report that would be different than that is simply not true and false reporting."

That’s uhh insane.
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

The central lie — the key dishonesty — of modern conservatism is that being judgmental about the ethnicity or language or culture of the person next door is fine and acceptable, but being judgmental of that attitude is elitist and arrogant and closed-minded. What vapid bullshit.

A key aspect of authoritrianism is the targeted persecution of political enemies.
I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

Yesterday was a huge day for everyone who believes in our campaign to flip #L16. We submitted over 2,300 signatures — 3x the required number to get on the ballot. We couldn’t have done this without the dozens of volunteers who worked so hard across the district over the last three months. Thank you!

In this film, Benjamin Martin leads a group of slaves, illiterate farmers, and Frenchmen to violently rebel against a king whose agents were occupying Americans' towns and homes, undermining trade, detaining people without trial and deporting them, and ignoring and undermining legislatures
I haven't seen people here mention this letter from the mayor of Illinois' 2nd-largest city (Aurora, 40+% Latino)

to the Aurora Police

following egregious attacks by immigration in Aurora and related protests

So here it is!

@scalzi.com So, is this a thing that just got stuck in your head for a few years, mere coincidence, or a sign you were already thinking of turning the moon into cheese a decade later?
Ok then. Have a great weekend. 🙂
I then drove north up the river, and looking west at the clouds, they appeared brownish grey.

I would have thought the opposite would be true: the clouds would look white on the up-sun side and dark on the down-sun side. What very cool thing did I miss?

@philplait.bsky.social Hiya. I need help understanding a cloud/sun thing, and you seem to enjoy both:

Yesterday morning I crossed a bridge over a river driving east. The sun was maybe 25° above the horizon. There were very low-hanging clouds over/on the bridge, and they appeared bright white.

How long until the #whitehouse, with its destruction for what's sure to be an embarrassingly gaudy #ballroom, is referred to as a palace?

"It's very nice, it's like a palace"
"It's palatial, really"
"I like it, I've made it into a palace"
"It's a White Palace now"
"It's my palace"

Once again, if the administration had a good story to tell on the law or the facts, it would be telling it—including to Congress.

But it doesn’t.

These lawless premeditated killings are exactly what they look like.
The U.S. military has killed at least 32 people in seven strikes off the coast of Venezuela without telling Congress or the American people who was killed, or on what evidence.
Trump's Venezuela operation expands in the dark
32 people have been killed. We don't know who they are.

It’s kind of bonkers that there are thousands of people marching in midtown Manhattan right now and the @nytimes.com doesn’t have ANY #NoKings COVERAGE on their website at all.
