The % of immigrants as a part of the US pop is the same as it was when my family came over in the early 20th century. My Nana came over as a teenager working as a maid, and yet her kids died fighting fascism on DDay, her grandkids became doctors, and her great-grandkids ended up in the White House.
Rep. Kat Cammarck: "Today, one in six people in the US is foreign born. That quite frankly is not sustainable to maintain a culture that we are known for here in the United States."

This episode and the one late on Thanksgiving evening (that was very clearly not written by him) really opens the door to questions about who has access to the President's social media logins, especially given that he, unlike basically any other president, actually uses social media to issue orders.
Trump has posted to Truth Social at least 75 times and counting in the past hour.

It’s weirdo garbage produced by random people on X and TikTok across a number of topics, like conspiracy theories about Ilhan Omar and influencers who claim “communists” are attempting a color revolution in the U.S.

This is truly despicable, even for what I'm sure is a messaging bill.
Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, just introduced a bill to ban Americans from holding dual citizenship. The bill says that to “preserve the integrity of national citizenship, allegiance to the United States must be undivided.” It’s called the Exclusive Citizenship Act.

REPORTER: Does the administration deny that that second strike happened, or did it happen and the administration denies that Hegseth gave the order?

LEAVITT: The latter. Secretary Hegseth authorized Admiral Bradley to conduct these kinetic strikes. He worked well within his authority and the law.

This is unhinged, unadulterated white nationalism that is so off-the-charts fascist not even David Duke would have said that in public.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

This is so deeply at odds with the vision and history of America. Take pretty much any ethnic or racial group that are part of the American mosaic America today - they have all faced the same accusation. The moment these accusations are turned into policy are some of the most shameful in US history
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Look, am I glad this article finally got written? Yes. But the amount of times the article takes a dig at President Biden (both by publishing full rants from Trump about him and also offhand shots from professors) is a bit glaring.

There's plenty I disagree with Nagy on, but on this we certainly agree. This is a disastrous decision by the Trump Administration. I have seen first hand how impressive the MWF and YALI alumni are, and how impactful they have been in their communities across all sectors.

This would be a massive, historic crime even if no one died — a rich guy is not permitted to arbitrarily close a government agency in a law-based society — but the massive body count turns it into an atrocity, the kind of thing we put people on trial for at The Hague.
The numbers vary from study to study but hundreds of thousands of people have died because of Elon Musk and Marco Rubio illegally disbanding USAID — a body count on par with the first eight years of the Syrian civil war — In just seven months. It’s mass death that is simply unfathomable in scale.

The U.S. has the leverage to help stop the RSF's atrocities in Sudan, RIGHT NOW. But to do that we have to use it.

Today, Republicans blocked my effort to pass legislation to suspend arms sales to the UAE until we can verify they are no longer arming the genocidal RSF. Shameful.

I’m going to turn into the Joker.
Yes, if only we had an agency that could provide "food, doctors, and everything else that are desperately needed" in Sudan.
Trump is now turning his attention to Sudan. We’ll see if the warring factions there want to play his games.

If you don't have to spend time on the Other Site for work, it's easy to be unaware of the proliferation of conservative accounts that do this 24/7, to say nothing of conservative influencers flying to wherever CBP is doing raids that day to film more agitprop and pick fights with protesters
Had to log into Twitter for a quick sec today for work and this got dropped in my feed and whew.

Firstly, I've got no idea wherever this stat came from
Secondly, 37% of the city is foreign born
Thirdly, there's like 20k rent controlled units out of 3m apartments
Fourthly, I'm tired

Having grown up in Western Mass (and lived in Boston), I don't think that particular attitude has changed much. Wouldn't recommend anyone test that, either.
One reaction to the first part of Ken Burns' documentary on the American Revolution:
One thing that really antagonized the people of Boston in the run-up to the Revolution was the occupation of the city by Redcoats dispatched by London. Having a standing army in their midst infuriated Bostonians.
