If you were out in the streets today, thanks. If you left feeling inspired, please seek out local ways that you can keep organizing with others.
Our local 🚫👑 rally was around the corner from Mass MoCA in North Adams.

In tonight’s hearing, Illston reiterated a question that raised eyebrows earlier in the week.

“Are you still unwilling to discuss the merits today?” Illston asked the DOJ lawyer.

“I’m not prepared to discuss the merits,” the lawyer, Elizabeth Hedges, replied.

They are arriving because of the mass mobilizations and they have figured out that Twitter isn't going to be the main space to monitor activity.

gee it'd be great if illinois had a heroic governor like @govpritzker.illinois.gov who'd put a stop to this kind of thing

oh wait
State troopers in riot gear just plowed into the crowd, started arresting protesters and clergy.

I fear that the reality is that most Democratic governors and mayors are scared of their own police forces and don't want to risk ordering them to stand down.

But they have to step up and do it. Our democracy is absolutely at stake.
This is pretty dumb and for all the obvious reasons...

But every photo I see of this event has the Lincoln Memorial rotated to line up with the bridge and proposed arch, and not the National Mall.

Details just don't matter to these people.
Press pool: “On Trump’s desk in the Oval Office today was a plan for a triumphal arch on the other side of the river from the Lincoln Memorial”

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

there are a couple of ways to think about this, one is that no one should be running for their first senate race at this age, and the other is that if platner can’t beat her, he definitely can’t beat collins. i think he can. everybody needs to stop crying and start fighting.

How W. E. B. Du Bois responded to government policing of "anti-American" sentiment during the 1910s:

"I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, 'We are seeking to have the Constitution of the United States thoroughly and completely enforced.' ”

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

This is it. Very glad to see this full-throated welcome to queer people — and recognition of trans people’s history — from Zohran Mamdani in the closing month of his campaign and on National Coming Out Day.
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

No other book better synthesized for me all the strands of American history, of enslavement and capitalism, of the power relationships between the colonies and states and how they were warped by the original sin of slavery. Must read. (hard read)
The American Slave Coast: A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry. “Instead of treating slavery as a source of unpaid labor, as it is typically understood, they focus on the ownership aspect: people as property, merchandise, collateral, and capital.” [kottke.org]
A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry in the United States
The American Slave Coast: A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry (Amazon) by Ned & Constance Sublette is a book which offers an alternate view of slavery in the United States. Instead of treating slavery as a source

The White House Antifa Roundtable is one of the best displays I’ve seen of this-is-how-bad-it’s-gotten — just a sewer of open fascism, dementia, morons and freaks, and incoherent rage.
