Hi all, this headline does not give the right impression of what is going on with these notices.

Scoop: Some NIH employees told they won't be paid during furlough after all.

Earlier today, some NIH employees received emails stating that they will not be paid during the shutdown. This was an unexpected, and likely unlawful, change in federal government policy.

Proud that we have played some small role in this — in urge Congress to stand up to Trump, and supporting those who want to do that.

Thank you @rephuffman.bsky.social - and to @ramirez.house.gov and @ivey.house.gov who stood with us on Monday outside the Capitol.

Also becoming increasingly clear how much the pressure on Dems in these last 9 months to fight harder has had an impact. The House Dems are showing remarkable grit. And they will get stronger as the public blame Republicans more and more for breaking/shutting down the US govt. (2/2)

AOC: Donald Trump is trying to play this bluffing game of, well, maybe what we're going to do is hold the entire all the federal workforce hostage and fire everybody. Donald Trump has been firing everybody.

There is an abuse of power and destruction of norms and democracy. DJT and the Republicans are weaker than they look. They are facing record levels of unpopularity. They are underwater across the board and they know it.

While hundreds of millions of dollars are being funneled into studying the cause of autism, billions are being cut from Medicaid, education, respite care, mental health, and community supports—the very programs that give autistic people and their families stability, dignity, and opportunity.

We must invest in supports that empower autistic people across the full spectrum of needs.

Using federal time, energy, and resources to study unsubstantiated risk factors takes away from pursuing research that could help more people… faster.
The focus has been on recycling an outdated, damaging narrative that autism is only a childhood condition, erasing the reality that autistic people live to adulthood and deserve long, healthy, fulfilling lives like anyone else.
Speaking in my own personal capacity on our weekend Vigil:

This week, autism has been in the headlines—not because of science that moves us forward, but because of misinformation that drags us backward.

Statement from SAFA:

Friday night's Supreme Court shadow docket order is the Court lawlessly signing off on Trump admin actions that ignore our Constitution. Congress must stand up to stop this brazen attack on American freedoms. We call on Congress to use the budget to check Trump lawlessness.

The NIH Autism Data Science Initiative (ADSI) launched Monday, but its impact was buried.

With 90% of NIH’s science communication staff terminated, the rigorous science was drowned out by an administration intent on distortion.

We were muzzled.

Since there is some discussion that NIH institutes should not simply use paylines to determine which grants to fund, I thought I would share some old data.

These are plots of funding probability fas a function of percentile score for 9 institutes.

@shaheen.senate.gov - please do not surrender. These people do not honor promises.

They don't even honor their own oaths to the Constitution.

If we - civil servants - can handle a shutdown, so can you.
Shaheen sends out signal for surrender from Schumer Dems. She will vote 4 blank checks to fund the Trump regime as long as she gets a “promise” that there will be vote on healthcare.

This is probably how Schumer’s caucus will surrender bc he doesn’t hold his member accountable 4 surrendering.

Just going to point out that Congress can easily legislate to stop this.

If there is a shutdown, and these illegal firings happen, Congress should then insist that any CR that ends the shutdown carries an explicit provision that those workers’ jobs are safe.

This seems to be their angle. If there’s a shutdown they won’t furlough employees they’ll fire them permanently. The fact that this is illegal kind of isn’t the point these days. I don’t see why this is much of a threat. They don’t have to do this. It’s a choice. They run the govt. when things …
