To all who're new to following and who've been here for a while, hi! I write about the future because I refuse to give up hope, and because giant queer ladies deserve to have their stories told. Check out details of my stories, typewriters, and games at phoebebartonsf.com - thanks for being around!

saw someone say plasma weapons are "more realistic" than laser weapons and I want to scream, people who assess "realism" based entirely on vibes are a plague

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

Adam: Was it good for you, baby?
Eve: It was not.

[later]

Adam: Anyway she came like a thousand times, I literally invented sex

My favorite part of the Steamed Hams bit is Skinner never thinks to turn off the oven

Barker: and they were all so normal!
Barker: he never even fucked one on a parent's grave
Mary Shelley: what was that
Barker: i said
Shelley:
Barker: never mind
Shelley: yeah that's what i thought

I should reread my copy of "The Anglo Guide to Survival in Québec" from 1983, clearly

oh, right, along with "L'ananas ne parlent pas"

honestly I remember as much from Téléfrancais as the entire rest of my French education

all this means that I speak much better Japanese than French, and my Japanese is still pretty bad

Probably highly dependent on place and time; my education was in 1990s Barrie, which was whiter than mayonnaise (not exaggerating; in 2001 it was 94% white)

from five years of mandatory French, I retain exactly two (2) things:

1. "Est-ce que tu danse dans la toilette?"
2. The French teacher shouting "stupid, shut up" at a student
phoebebarton.bsky.social
one big hint that the Anglo Canadian French education system doesn't give a shit about actual functional understanding is that it teaches Metropolitan French rather than Québecois French

you know, the primary version of French that's *actually spoken* in Canada
phoebebarton.bsky.social
the idea that a lot of Japanese people can't speak English well despite years of mandatory English education makes total sense to me. I went through years of mandatory French education and my French is absolute shit because they didn't teach us to actually understand it
