sharpen this to "she is an elf sorceress named Mariabelle" and it *still* does not narrow it down to one
i find it interesting that "isekai protagonist returns to Japan from a fantasy world, only to discover a familiar, naked elf woman in his apartment" describes multiple series

-_-

it's not that Brianna Wu is a fool because "she also thinks you can just drop things onto earth from the moon." using lunar rocks as mass driver bombardment ammunition is not "just dropping things." she's a fool because it's ineffective compared to earth-based ballistic missiles.

it's the staggering ordinariness of the sky above ground zero

consider: a timeline much like ours, but where vending machines sell Nauga Sweat and cars are upholstered with pocarihyde

i suspect that the problem that's being run into with calling creative workers "petit bourgeoisie" is that assumption that the petit bourgeoisie makes its money through its ownership of production

which is not the case for 99.9% of creatives

if I'd had to survive on my writing earnings I'd be dead

that "Americanophobia" list is an amazing example of how incredibly fragile residents of the imperial hub can be

it occurs to me: have we ever considered calling USAmericans "Staters"? it rolls off the tongue, I think

so with all these isekais about fantasy worlders travelling to Japan and me not having seen all of them, I have to wonder if any of them deal with the fact that the fantasy worlders would have neither a valid passport nor a resident card, and the constant potential for ~fun~ conflict thereby

Help me fund epic poem GULA: A Poem For The End Times on BackerKit! A modernist/post-modernist long-form poem, GULA explores Carrion City, a place where the lost and forsaken end up and rarely leave -- a mirror city to the world of the beloved and treasured.

my "do not call me, a Canadian, an American" posts are getting a lot of attention from people who want to tell me what name I should be satisfied to call myself

this building is a great inspiration for some authoritarian government or evil megacorporate headquarters. that staircase nails the whole "the individual is meaningless next to the vastness of the system" vibe

i challenge anyone who says "everyone from North and South America are Americans" to extend that logic and call Irish people British, to see the results of words having different meanings in different languages

i've seen people making the argument that it's a result of everyone being broke now, but like, this round was set off in part by piracy of an indie ebook that was on sale for 99 cents

there is a vast and deep well of genuinely free, no-piracy-needed stuff out there
I imagine most of the people trying to claim that stealing indie ebooks is leftism simply have never had to worry about paying rent or for groceries but sorry, your desire for free luxury goods is outweighed by the material needs of their creators

this made me wonder: why is it that so many people are intensely radiophobic but those same people tend not to give a shit about covid/flu mitigation, when both involve "invisible things that can hurt or kill you" but people are lackadaisical about the one they're infinitely more likely to meet?
I feel a certain level of [facepalm] at the amount of rad explainer they felt they needed to do rather than discuss the lab/museum itself more, but such is dealing with a radiophobic public.

NOTE: a lot of thick glass covered surfaces in shot

And, man, just can't decon wood. We sure have tried.

"[People's Liberation Army Navy] nuclear submarines are all named Changzheng (Long March) along with a number. Conventional submarines are all named Changcheng (Great Wall) along with a number."

now that's just uncreative. submarines deserve better

A chatgpt user will *never* experience the experience of finding the task of researching and organizing an essay or program or story, shockingly easier than it used to be.

A genAI user will *never* find an artistic task effortless that was once enormously frustrating.

finally posting this now that I've been able to identify all the ships in question, thanks to the sun being in an unfavourable sky spot

it's a lot easier to squint at a barely-readable name on a monitor than on a phone

people always stereotype Canadians as being polite, and its not true at all. We are passive-agressive weirdos who live in isolated weird places and the sooner we make peace with that the better

one thing that annoys me is how Japanese-style ubiquitous outdoor vending machines would never work in Canada, because people would destroy them for the sheer sake of destroying them
