Choice A: imperfect Dems who try to pass less than perfect legislation for the good of Americans

Choice B: incompetent racist/sexist GOP who weaponize cruelty & chaos to the detriment of Americans, spreading suffering while lowering taxes for the rich

Hyperfocusing on A depresses votes. Oppose B.

PEN America says that the Pentagon has committed a "staggering retreat" with its decision to shut out reporters, while it's "heartened by the solidarity of news organizations standing together in the face of government censorship, and their continued coverage of the Pentagon..."

2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.

1. Friends, I have a major career update. And it is bittersweet.

My time at Rolling Stone is coming to a close this week.
"Once populations become embedded in sealed info environments, the majority maintain faith through famine, economic collapse, & policies that kill millions. The propaganda apparatus attributes disaster to enemies rather than leadership... believers accept this framing even as conditions deteriorate.

America could be heading into an era without the Voting Rights Act. Hanna Rosin spoke with Stacey Abrams and Vann Newkirk to examine what this could mean for Black voters, democracy, and control of Congress.

Listen on "Radio Atlantic":
If the Voting Rights Act Falls
The Supreme Court appears ready to hobble the landmark civil-rights law. What does that mean for Black voters, democracy, and control of Congress?

ICE's military raids and masked kidnappings are resonating deeply/negatively in the cultural spaces we keep hearing Dems need to reach: Manosphere, Joe Rogan, country music, disengaged voters. That's rare and it gives Dems a big opening to engage.

Thoughts on this:

Candidates should be evaluated on qualifications and yes, cognitive fitness.

We'd all like to see younger people who were as accomplished as JFK (POTUS at 43) & Clinton (Governor at 33)

If age is an issue, then the question should be: will she be able to meet the cognitive demands required of a legislator?

Same for Platner: would a person unable to finish college because of PTSD (which may affect concentration, attention, distractibility) be able to meet those cognitive demands?
I want Dem candidates to first understand the tradition of math. The party with more numbers get to set policy. No matter how iconoclastic the candidate is, if they are in the minority party, their voice still only counts as one vote.

Some of the best Democratic politicians are old; some of the worst are young. The establishment/center-left is addressing the youth argument by running blah young people. So time to move on from talking about age alone. newrepublic.com/article/2018...
Not All Old Candidates Are Joe Biden, and Not All Young Ones Are Great
All things being equal, sure, Democrats ought to lean toward younger candidates. But there are many times when all things aren’t equal.

“The declining strength of the US passport... is more than just a reshuffle in rankings — it signals a fundamental shift in global mobility & soft power dynamics... Nations that embrace openness & cooperation are surging ahead, while those resting on past privilege are being left behind.”
McConnell could have advocated for more funding in healthcare. He could have been more vocal about the importance of vaccines.

Instead, he assisted in the demise of the United States of America. He chose power over people. That's his legacy.

For McConnell, virus carries echo of his boyhood polio
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitch McConnell’s earliest childhood memory is the day he left the polio treatment center at Warm Springs, Georgia, for the last time.

Here's how ProPublica categorizes the 170 US citizens ICE has kidnapped. 50 Kavanaugh stops and 120 cases where ICE claimed they were assaulted, usually (IMO) after assaulting the person in question.

Remember that 2 of the electeds--Ras Baraka and Brad Lander--were arrested DURING their election.
We reviewed more than 170 cases overall, which we sorted into two categories.

The first is Americans who were held because agents questioned their citizenship. We found more than 50 such cases. The second category is Americans arrested by immigration agents after being accused of assaulting or impeding officers at protests or during immigration arrests of others. In that category, we tallied about 130 Americans, including more than a dozen elected officials. In many of these cases, the government never charged these individuals or the cases were dismissed.

NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.

This wasn't the data I had in mind but similar findings.

www.advisorperspectives.com/articles/202...
Most of us, a whopping 80%, feel the nation's economy is poor or not so good. About as many, 85%, think the economy will get worse or stay about the same, and 78% think it will be worse for our children's generation.
That perception is remarkably polarized and confusing when compared with reality, even within the survey itself. The respondents also reported the following:
• 62% are either well satisfied or more-or-less satisfied with their present financial condition.
• 62% say their personal financial situation is either getting better or staying the same.
• 66% say their financial situation is better or about where they expected to be at this stage in life.
• 72% say the rising cost of living is of no concern, not a problem, or minor in
nature.
There was one where people rated their own financial situation as fine but perceived others to be doing worse. Will have to look.
This figure (View That Effects of Global Warming Have Already Begun
