We mourn what could have been and rage at what is.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
As it currently is no, no chance in hell it works.

But throw enough money(read a couple hundred bil usd) at the concept of space based interceptors and it could potentially, maybe, theoretically be made to work.

Yeah and it is all running on an architecture von Neumann came up with in 1945 for the EDVAC. Just going real fucking fast.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
Though there were lots of questions where I felt a need for more nuance.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
Fits with my overall approach to things.
My ai-identity is cautious optimist

I do appreciate von Neumann coming back into the wider societal awareness.

We are talking him on machines using an architecture he designed. A von neumann machine(not the self replicating probe kind)

It's grim

Active duty O-4 (supposedly promoted to O-5), sean parnell liked his poasts so much he had the Army reassign him to work in sean's office

He's past retirement eligibility so he'll obviously drop retirement papers before 20 Jan 29, although randy george is still a beta cuck for this

Like Israel was/is incredibly exposed to sanctions from the EU specifically, and the US too.
It would cripple them. Not the sort of situation you consolidate a dictatorship under.

A weapons embargo would just be ensuring they are limited in their ability to prosecute their evil fuckery.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
Not countries with the kind of integration with the EU/US economic bloc that Israel has.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
They just keep getting dumber, Jesus.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
But also an EU/US coordinated sanctions regime and weapons embargo is the kind of stuff that breaks economies and harms the ability for Israel to prosecute the evil shit it was/is doing.

Preferably delivered at very high velocity.

we are going to bully this into happening

I love reading old von Neumann papers, second to that is old obscure soviet math papers.

Student job* being a part time job. You don't need one per se, but SU just isn't enough to live off in CPH.
persistentpoasting.bsky.social
Phrasing the support model present in a few nordic countries as being paid to go to school is a bit weird.

In Denmark you start getting SU, at 18, scaled to your parents income bracket. At uni it scales up fully. There are rules about progress etc, but it's meant to support not replace a studyjob.

Guess smartmatic's job of convincing customers they are better than the competition just got a lot easier.

So dominion voting got sold, look at this fascinating statement from their new owner (not to doom but this is, uh, suboptimal). www.dominionvoting.com
(Dominion voting website now redirecting to libertyvote.com with the following statement:)

Our Promise.
-
My Fellow Americans,
Today, I am proud to announce Liberty Vote - a 100% American-owned election technology company dedicated to restoring trust in our elections. Our mission is clear: every vote must be secure, fair, and verifiable.
I have spent my life working to strengthen America's elections. That commitment began years ago, in the aftermath of the 2000 election, when I worked for the Missouri Secretary of State. Later, as Election Director in St. Louis, I led the effort to modernize outdated systems and rebuild public trust. Eventually, I founded an election technology company that today serves nearly one in four voters nationwide.
With Liberty Vote, we are building on that legacy. We are turning the page and beginning the vital work of restoring faith in American elections. While these changes will not happen overnight, Liberty Vote's mission is rooted in American values and committed to transparency, independent audits, and verifiable paper records.
Our purpose is simple: to ensure that America's elections are secure, fair, and honest.
Scott Leiendecker
Founder and Chairman, Liberty Vote

I'm sure centcom has a few spares from taking INDOPACOM's lunch money.

Good luck convincing them that they don't strictly need them though.

Thing is just you can have the hardware and sensors. You still need to teach/train them to navigate and manipulate the world around them to do these tasks.

And that is far from trivial. Unless you make them so simple that you are essentially just programming a normal robot arm without a base.

Thank God, they got it done and into production before the US fully killed off the CVE program.
