once you see it it becomes hard to avoid noticing that any time dems make a public comment about something terrible that's happened they never offer any plans to hold the people responsible accountable or to take any action to prevent it from happening again in the future

wealth concentration is already 200% as bad at is was in 2020. think about that
The pace at which US wealth concentration is rising is simply staggering

The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory

AOC’s biggest problem if she runs for president is that the white men who control our media ecosystem will not so much put a finger on the scale to stop her as an entire hand

it can be done (see: Zohran) but it’s going to be blatant and it’s going to be infuriating
Have you ever once seen the New York Times quote Trump like this?

ICE forced starving children to watch them eat thanksgiving.

...

Prosecute everyone. Every single ICE agent. I don't care anymore if you think you're trapped. By saying nothing, you are complicit.

Fuck off. Burn. Live the rest of your life in a cell. Nazis.

napoleon dunking on england even from the grave
Great piece from @dsquareddigest.bsky.social, which touches on one of the big theories for why English-speaking countries do especially badly at housebuilding:

Adversarial and litigious common law systems (Anglo) vs judge-led civil law systems elsewhere.

have a hard time having faith in Indivisible because they'll post graphics like this—an accurate attack on the republican budget!—then turn around and support schumer even as the majority leader gives his support to trump's budget

we're in primary election season, this is our chance as voters to support the politicians whose views are most aligned with our own

when the general election rolls around maybe then we'll have vote for the compromise nominee but right now is the time to vote for the candidates we like best
February 16, 2026 at 1:44 PM
that's right, once chuck schumer has a majority it's gonna fix everything

the defining trait of the democratic party is a quarter century of failures

they failed to hold anyone accountable for the lies that lead to the iraq war

they failed to hold the banks accountable for wrecking the economy

they failed to punish the insurrectionists who tried to steal the election
February 16, 2026 at 11:50 AM
the democratic party saw millions of voters in the streets in 2020 but instead of trying to harness that energy they tried to diffuse it as rapidly as possible

now it's happening again

the dem establishment is more concerned with quashing disruption than reforming our broken political system
I do think there’s a certain type of Democrat that realizes it’s possible we are dealing with a perfect storm where almost any Democrat will win, and are terrified we might nominate radical candidates who will actually engage in needed change instead of status quo corporate centrist bullshit.
One of the interesting things this time around is just how hollow the whole thing sounds. In the past, people have been able to use the empty concept of electability to anoint and position the person they demanded, but now that Republicans are getting obliterated everywhere, that doesn't work.

during primary season the republican party works very hard to appeal to the conservatives who vote in primaries

during primary season the democratic party works very hard to avoid being seen as caving in to the liberals who vote in primaries

hey remember when schumer & jeffries were easing off of some their legislative demands in exchange for the white house forcing noem to resign?

huh

i wonder what ever happened to that

anyone who was paying any attention at all to politics in the 2000s should recognize that gavin newsom is just a sleazier, more privileged version of john edwards
February 15, 2026 at 8:46 PM
you can identify the dems who would have failed presidencies—ie., would fail to hold our current fascists accountable—by observing how they treat the most marginalized groups

any dem who isn't defending trans people, palestinians, etc., is a dem who won't pursue punishing the fascists
a newsom presidency would, at best, be biden redux: some modestly good policies for a few yrs combined with a complete abdication of the necessary work of stomping out the fascist movement, thereby paving the way for them to sweep back into power more dangerous than ever
February 15, 2026 at 8:26 PM
i think the implicit divide between the "you must enthusiastically support newsom if he's the nominee" types vs us who view him with intense skepticism is the gap between believing trump & fascism will be defeated simply by putting a dem back in the white house vs seeing a need for Reconstruction 2

fun to think about how conservatives were so mad about nixon that they spent five decades transforming the presidency into an unaccountable godhood

but these same people would also think nixon was a soft soyboy cuck—he established the EPA! he established diplomatic relations with china!

Everyone involved in this is going to spend years in prison before a one-way trip to Hell
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.
