the reason this meme resonates is because the democratic party keeps showing they have a real ideological commitment to imperial violence whereas their support for vulnerable minorities is paper thin and only lasts as long as doing so remains convenient
I hate this sort of meme.

“The only difference between the parties is whether the power to destroy human civilization rests in the hands of leaders who think gays, women, and black people should have their rights acknowledged.”

Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?

universities are our preeminent institutions of knowledge but we turned all our largest colleges into hedge funds which happen to teach on the side & school presidents into guys whose main qualification is their ability to be chummy enough with zillionaires to get them to cut the school huge checks
The worst thing to happen to academia was the emergence of a nomadic administrative class like the one in corporations who just move from institution to institution setting fires and walking away.

Say what you will about the flaws of faculty governance, but at least they believe in the mission.

speaking of how NYT platforms lies & cheats i'm thinking again about how Nick Kristof left the NYT to run for gov. of OR despite being manifestly ineligible on account of having not lived in the state for yrs but nonetheless pocketed millions in campaign donations—then the NYT gave him his job back
what do you even do about journalists like this. biggest megaphone on the planet at the times and choosing to promote lies. it doesn't do shit if we all block her, and we can only cancel subs so many times.

i guess you hope for a sense of shame that you know isn't there
NEW: The F.D.A. announced in an internal memo that 10 children died "because of" the Covid shot. Other experts want to see proof.

“This is a profound revelation,” Dr. Prasad's memo said. “For the first time, the U.S. F.D.A. will acknowledge that Covid-19 vaccines have killed American children.”

prison is the moderate position
If a man personally implicated in war crimes can remain atop the Pentagon, why would he stand by and risk his freedom should Vance (or Trump again) lose the 2028 election?

And unless Bradley sees the inside of a brig, the message to USSOCOM's chain of command is that no action is impermissible.

jeffries not only knows that this is a lie—he's demonstrated that he knows it's a lie because when a backbencher dem tried to introduce articles of impeachment it caused a panic in dem leadership who immediately bullied the guy into dropping the impeachment motion
"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case."

This is a flat-out 100% lie from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and he knows it. Impeachment resolutions are privileged, they can force a vote at any time.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

my local sheriff went psycho in 2020 because he spent all day, every day marinating in the most reactionary corners of facebook and retweeting Qanon conspiracy theories
The thing about cops is they actually become more likely to be the most bloodthirsty psycho on the Facebook local news page the higher you go up the chain
Chief Bovino is not a political appointee. He is a civil servant, subject to the same requirements to be nonpartisan as any other employee. These messages are being broadcast from an official government account.

the most optimistic outlook is that the Constitution isn't *dead* rather that it's 'merely' in abeyance

that perhaps even though the country is currently operating under a lawless government there might be a future date where these villains are deposed & the Constitution can be restored
It is surprising how many people don’t seem to get that the American Constitution is already dead.

the central thesis of the biden administration was "the Trump Fever is about to break" and they spent four years adamantly refusing to recognize that trump *is* the republican party
dems spent 4 previous years post-failed coup trying to segregate the GOP into MAGA and non-MAGA factions and work to rehabilitate and normalize the non-MAGA ones as an effort to marginalize the MAGA faction. it was a disaster and they cannot do it again.

i've found a bunch of interesting movies at my local library both by browsing their catalog and by just randomly walking down the aisles to see if anything catches my attention
One reason I mourn the death of old style video rental places.

But you can make great finds sometimes in the AV sections of the public library!

trump's pardons aren't real because his presidency isn't real because he's been Constitutionally ineligible to hold office ever since he assaulted the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election
And if you do that, as we must, it's not just pardons that are null. It's everything. No appointments are valid. No orders were real. No laws were validly signed. It all falls into a constitutional interregnum in which nothing he's done counts as legitimate, akin to the South under the Confederacy.

if oil weren't something we were all already accustomed to as part of the background noise of daily life but were instead encountering it for the first time we would be repulsed by what a foul and filthy substance it is. crude oil can quite literally emit poison into the air!

south korea experienced a coup attempt because their president went insane watching ultra-nationalist conspiracy theorists on youtube

now imagine the reactionary bigots on the white house staff feeding AI video slop to a president who is infamously credulous at believing whatever he sees on tv
At this point, I wonder if he isn't lying when he says he has "my highest Poll Numbers, ever" since it's entirely possible that's what his aides are telling him. It's quite likely that there's an entire Potemkin village built around Trump right now.

just my own anecdote but i worked at walmart while i was in school and a few years later i got a check from a class action lawsuit walmart had settled because they had been stealing wages
The types of businesses that engage in wage theft and other overall shadiness towards employees are far more likely to be mom and pop small businesses than large multinational conglomerates.

Not to say those big companies dont treat employees like shit, but they have actual policies and shit

This is what happens when you have a congress driven entirely by news cycles and money. Even when the president is calling for their executions, they are incapable of breaking out of their routines. Especially when it involves doing real work.
