So they didn’t like the ad. Let’s just post Reagan’s 5 min speech against tariffs as it appears on YouTube.

Over and over. On all platforms (some of y’all are still on X).

Can't lose if you never fight, amirite??? -- NYT
"Win" what, in order to accomplish what, for whom.
Being a billionaire's megaphone was supposed to turn a profit, too?!
I doubt you could get more than 91% of people to agree water is wet, it's as close to a consensus view as we'll see I think!
I have intense schadenfreude for the de-credentialed press orgs. They all helped bring about this outcome, with the exception, I think, of Reuters.
Asking assigned sex at birth has an immediate smell of incoming dumbfuckery, in medical and any other context.

So far the only time it's been necessary or useful to disclose is when the doctor was disoriented trying to find my cervix in a pelvic exam.

A fair and pretty uncontroversial take, tbh

The fact that cis people now have a genuinely useful social media home that isn’t a seething bed of misery, and actually feels chill, kind, and funny instead of toxic - is the work of Trans+ folks
trans people aren't being grandiose when we say we built this site. musk's hostility to us made us the first adapters, the proof that people wanted a twitter clone with fewer features. this site's existence is a result of a right wing agenda to kill us all.
Came here to say this, I mean, yeah, add the ICE stuff to the list of reasons to cancel … but it was already a long list!
SO MUCH THIS!!!
We can’t out-Republican Republicans, nor should we want to.

Democrats need to say what they believe — and actually believe in something.

Yeah, I think you're laying down some friendly fire here. I read that post with a clear /s.
I was going to say something like this.

I think about how it must have felt in 1940. Europe fallen. Carpet bombing in London, unrestricted submarine warfare. Victory must have felt unimaginable.

Today is dark, but there is still time to keep the key from turning.
I genuinely have found stoic philosophy (and, weirdly despite it being in many ways an opposite, sceptical philosophy) very comforting and helpful in letting me fight on for this sort of purpose.
Democracy dies in darkness lmao. WaPo helped drag it there and bury it.
somehow they managed to do the free press but worse
behold the bold and brave washington post opinion section (under new management), lol
I just don't see how a mod team could reliably do this unless it's a situation of a criminal conviction.

Exceptional Doctorow piece on the solar rollout, why it's unstoppable, & why many old downsides of solar aren't factors anymore. The entire material mining needed 4 a global solar transition = only 17% of the fossil fuel mining we do every year! & then we're done! doctorow.medium.com/https-plural...

There's never been a social site or board with the kind of user self moderation tools available here. And more could be added.

Genuine question: do we *really* need moderation beyond removal of illegal content? Moderation will always be flawed.

Maybe opt-in community modding is the entire answer?
As the mod who tamed a big news site's notoriously annoying comment section that serially harassed many of the site's authors, it's 100 percent obvious that the problem here is the same problem I solved back then.

A moderation team can't earn buy in from a community they're openly contemptuous of.
Thanks so much Anil, your thread 100% reflects my sentiments on this issue.
Bsky needs evenhanded moderation, or none.

Increasingly I think the former is impossible, so I prefer the latter.

Remove only illegal content. Let users do the rest.
💯%.

Allowing some users (overwhelmingly, right wing voices) a safe space while banning their critics is the kind of slanted platform users abandoned with Twitter.

If you think users won't move on again if you don't learn from your mistakes (and fast), you are in for a surprise.
then let people self-moderate. we have labelers, block lists, and other tools at our disposal. if you truly want to be hands-off and focus on architecture, then don't moderate. don't suspend accounts at all. be consistent.
Racists engage in the exact same conduct.

"I'm not racist but..." says the racist.

Nothing someone says before "but" actually matters.
I love how they are always like, in not transphobic and I believe trans people exist. And then they proceed to say something very transphobic and denying trans people exist. It is funny the way they try to tie themselves in knots to try and look better
