Unfortunately, as we have seen in Alberta, healthcare can easily be made political and courts preempted by the notwithstanding clause.

The attack on trans kids is the trial balloon for going after anything and everything conservative extremists don't like from abortion, to IVF to birth control.

Only in the written content as far as I know, though.

CRTC only regulates broadcast, so it has to be video or audio. If you have pointers to it being read aloud by a BBC employee in broadcast, lmk!

The tide is turning and cowards are climbing all over each other to get aboard the sinking ship.

What a clown show.

To everyone impacted, I’m so sorry.

I haven't seen Canadian broadcast content with this phrasing, but if you come across radio/TV/video clips with this phrasing, I’m happy to check them on this side of the ocean.

I wish they would do the right thing to do the right thing, but over here it isn’t just the right thing: it’s the law.

BBC has market access here, but must follow CRTC "abusive comment" rules to broadcast. If this phrasing appears in broadcast (TV/Radio) or video on their site in Canada, they risk regulatory complaints. Could make it more complex/trickier for them to maintain a separate style guide for Canada.

Canadian here 👋. Legal heads-up: Under Oger v Whatcott (2019 BCHRT 58), in Canada calling a trans woman a "biological male" is discriminatory conduct exposing a protected group to hatred. This finding was effectively endorsed by our Supreme Court in Hansman v Neufeld (2023 SCC 14).

In my opinion it is more likely due to the show's digital distribution rights, so, please keep examples coming and I'll keep checking if they're accessible here.

Thanks for sharing! *Very* interesting: this content is geo-blocked in Canada. I can get it with a VPN host in the UK, but in Canada this URL is a 404.

I have no way to know if this is just due to commercial licensing restrictions for the show or CRTC compliance.
