“For Christians, the problem of the poor leads to the very heart of our faith,” Pope Leo says, because “the poor are not a sociological category, but the very ‘flesh’ of Christ.”

“No Christian can regard the poor simply as a societal problem; they are part of our ‘family.’ They are ‘one of us.’”
Pope Leo in first major document: Love for the poor is not optional for Christians
“I often wonder, even though the teaching of Sacred Scripture is so clear about the poor, why many people continue to think that they can safely disregard the poor,” Pope Leo XIV states in his first m...

Funny how Sleepy Joe Biden managed to get through an entire term of a presidency without the government shutting down.

Something Troubled Trump has not been able to do. Either time.

Federal agents reporting to Secretary Noem have spent weeks snatching up families, scaring law-abiding residents, violating due process rights, and even detaining U.S. citizens.

They fail to focus on violent criminals and instead create panic in our communities.

I think Ed makes a pretty strong point here about Lindsey Halligan: She hasn't been lawfully appointed under 28 U.S.C. § 546, and as he also points out, his view is supported by a 1986 OLC opinion written by some guy named … {checks notes} … Samuel A. Alito. (1/3)

Former West Point cadet here. The Sylvanus Thayer Award is a big deal. It's one of the biggest days on the Academy's calendar. I can't emphasize enough that the ceremony and dinner for Tom Hanks being cancelled is pretty insane.

I’ve spent a good chunk of my career relying on American science and engineering to keep me alive. Yesterday, RFK Jr. testified at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. It was sad to see him try to destroy the life’s work of so many American scientists. He shouldn’t be in this job.

I'm old enough to remember when polio put my friends into iron lungs.

We dutifully lined up at school to get vaccinated. We eradicated the disease. We protected the common good and saved lives.

What RFK Jr. is doing to public health in America is a disgrace.
