Remember this picture, & others like it, every time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam."

This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s.

Many of the cities we admire made better choices regarding cars in the past. and are still making better choices today.

Better choices instead of excuses.

I have been reading all the "students these days" threads from various sides and I have an essay's worth of thoughts -- there's a lot of complexity and heterogeneity that is hard to communicate on social media. There are a couple of things I will say here though. 1/

It’s #BlackFridayParking day, so we took a visit to the Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury, CT.

Even on the busiest day of the year—a day where the front side of the mall is packed—the back side and parking garage has more than enough space!

This is definitely a factor in our household. Other questions include: Can you learn as you play your first game? How easy is it to remember from the game design/theming what is allowed? Are there default strategies that must be explained with the rules or there will be no hope of winning?
When evaluating whether or not a board game is "good," how much do you weigh "ease of learning how to play it"?

On hour 2 of Earthborn Rangers and my great friend/guide through the game just realized we've been playing it wrong the entire time...

Another example of a weird American domestic decorating & design taboo: no depictions of cars allowed, except in man caves & boys' bedrooms. Otherwise, landscapes & cityscapes must be car-free to earn a place on the wall or your holiday cards.
USPS 250th Anniversary Forever Stamps are a model for walkable communities, urbanism, and car-free neighborhoods.

yeah I feel a very high sense of alarm about what the "incapable of loving our country" goalposts are going to include

quite certainly they're going to try very hard to use it on elected Democrats which is at least one reason I feel like we need to be TALKING ABOUT IMPEACHMENT WAY MORE THAN WE ARE
In case you thought you were safe bc you aren't one of his currently identified enemies to kidnap and deport, take a look at this line:

"and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country..."

No one is safe when a bully is in charge.

#BlackFridayParking Every excess retail parking space is a failure for land use policy, the climate, wildlife, the economy, municipal finances, and public health. Black Friday reveals how big retailers build too much parking. Let's end parking minimums and retrofit suburbia.

Volunteers in Kirkland have a new tool that attaches to the back of an e-bike. It's good for protected bike lanes, sidewalks, and narrow trails.

Congratulations to IL on becoming the third state to pass state level Parking Reform in 2025!

We’ve still got CT & NC on the clock which would get us to 5 in one year! Amazing work by @parkingreform.org & many others 🙌🙌
Also contains parking reform! This is a preliminary map of Chicagoland based on the People Over Parking Act provision.

It would also apply downstate though!

Not wanting to disappoint you so much that it lies is the last quality I want in a computer.

Every time I get behind the wheel of a car, I remember that I am wielding a weapon that can cause untold destruction, I wish more drivers thought about that, especially the ones that cavalierly almost run me over on a regular basis.
Ok, sure, let’s call it a shared responsibility, but let’s apportion that responsibility proportional to how much capacity for destruction each party in the equation has.
When a pedestrian is not paying attention and walks into something, no one dies. When a driver is not paying attention and drives into something people are often injured/killed. How long will it fucking take for society to STOP EQUATING THE TWO?

The idea is simple: showcase that even on the busiest shopping day of the year, plenty of parking spaces remain unused, supposedly when demand is at its peak.
