The trick is to make a point of remembering. Even painful events like this tragedy.
Thanks to @mrsbettybowers.bsky.social for remembering, and being a vocal ally. 🏳️‍🌈

On this date, Matthew Shephard died 27 years ago. He was beaten, tortured, and left for dead on fence for being gay. Please keep him and his wonderful mother Judy in your thoughts. And let's all work for a world where such horrific things do not happen to anyone. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

The glaciers on Tahoma are next level. And each one has a different character. Some of them are spicy!

There is so much, it's almost overwhelming. Pick a location, and plan ahead!
I've been exploring in the Pacific Northwest my whole life, and there is still too much to see!

Good to see you getting out and enjoying the nice Fall weather!

What's going down for #Stunday?
A close study of the Nisqually Icefall on #Tahoma ( #MountRainier).
The glacier drops 1,000 feet down part of the mountainside! An incredible sight from a safe distance.

A photo of part of the mountainside on Tahoma (Mount Rainier National Park).
The image is dominated by a glacier plunging a thousand feet down the mountain, with massive fracture and creases as the ice strains against gravity.
This is only a small, but dramatic part of the Nisqually Glacier.
The glacier Icefall is bordered on both sides by higher rocky outcrops of ridges on the mountain, in shades of dark browns with dusky reddish hues. The funnel all the ice into the drop. It mostly moves too slowly to see, but it's a hazard in case the tremendous strain is suddenly released by any number of factors.
The glacier is mainly white with hints of blue, and streaks of dusty reddish brown rockfall.
To the upper right, the boardering ridgeline continues upward to the center to of the image. To the right of this long ridge is another vast glacier descending from high on the mountainside, and the dark blue sky at the very upper right corner.
The sun illuminates the scene from out of frame to the upper left.

The prominence on the right hand side of the mountain is known as Illumination Rock, and is a familiar feature for those in the region and #PDX. It's very visible from Timberline Lodge (it is to the left from the lodge area), and the ski area there.

Basking in the Alpen #Glow of #MountHood high on it's upper flanks in an alpine meadow. (2023)

A photo dominated by the view of a tall mountain from high on it's slopes looking toward the top near sunset as the mountain glows with the last rays of the setting sun. The sky over the mountain is a deep blue.
The high slopes and glaciers of the mountain are bathed in reddish to orange color, while the lower slopes are becoming heavily shaded, but some small green shrubs clinging to the steep slopes are still visible.
On the right side of the mountain below the ridge tops is a glacier, with water running down the rocky slopes below it.

Took me a minute to parse what was going on here.
But you'll be fine, as long as the ferry gives consent.

I absolutely love that the nickname for this small companion star to Betelgeuse is "Betelbuddy"! 🤩

This is not something you can see, or even hope to resolve with an amateur telescope. The size and brightness difference is vast.

It’s true: the cities are lawless and scary, if you live here sell your property as fast as possible, particularly if you have a 2 family row house from the 1920s with those nice bay windows.
