2024 is almost over, so here's a couple of the cool things I've had the honor of working on this year! In no particular order --

Amanda the Adventurer 2! I drew several pieces of art that appear in this game, including several that are parts of puzzles!
The microfiche map puzzle from Amanda the Adventurer 2, illustrated by me The 'King of the Earrings' library books from Amanda the Adventurer 2, designed and illustrated by me. The 'Silence is golden in here' poster from Amanda the Adventurer 2, designed and illustrated by me The pop-up book puzzle from Amanda the Adventurer 2, with book covers illustrated by me (interior pop-up art for The Lonely Knight, Hungy Hungy Dragon, and The Annoying Little Wizard also illustrated by me)

Lmao Leto couldn’t even muster the energy to actually reach up, he just put his arms up and called it a day. How embarrassing.

A page from my comics adaption of George A. Romero's RESIDENT EVIL

Panel 1: Wesker and Forest stand beside a computer printer, Wesker pulling pages from the machine as they print out. Wesker says "This place goes pretty deep... but these shoulg get us a clear shot at the antidote lab.". Forest, exasperatedly, shouts "Woah, woah hang on! We're done here. The mission was to rescue the egghead and jet. Dude's dead, this antidote shit is someone else's problem now."

Panel 2: Kenneth, Richard, Chris, and Jill watch as Wesker and Forest begin to argue. "Here we go again" Richard says. "Yeah well the misson's been updated!" Wesker says, "And I don't like your tone, Speyer! You keep this up and I'll have you court martialed!" Forest responds "Feel fucking free to, Wesker! It sure beats having my head torn off by one of these viral cultured freaks!". In the foreground, Rebecca turns her head at a slight thumping sound eminating from behind her, going "Hm?"

Panel 3: Far at the back of the room, an ominous red light glows in the darkness. The light is a sign, reading "containment breach".

Panel 4: Rebecca switches on her flashlight to investigate, her eyes going wide with panic. "O-oh no... g-guys?" she stammers out.

Panel 5: The flashlight glints off of a glass door, "Biological" is writton on it, and just behind is a horde of zombies, flesh torn and bleeding, pounding their heads and hands against the glass. One side of the glass cracks under the pressure. An ad for the video game Heartworm, showing screenshots from the game on a roll of film. A tagline reads "Develop some new fears", and below a blurb describes: "Pass through the threshold and enter a world born of memories. Defend yourself with a camera while solving death's mysteries in a reverent evolution of 90s survival horror, integrating both fixed cameras and over the shoulder perspectives." A logo for the DreadXP Indie Horror Showcase, designed to look like a VHS label. A book cover from the video game Amanda the Adventurer 2, titled "King of the Earrings - Vol. 1: The Four Fences" by Irite Wurds, with an illustration a hooded figure standing in front of four fences, inspired by the iconic "You've never taken a shortcut before?" sequence from Shaun of the Dead.

Nakanishi knows his shit, I have no doubt there’s gonna be at least one place in this game we’re gonna be adding to The List haha
octoberart.bsky.social
Yeah, I feel like the majority of the series is high pressure/panic-inducing than *scary* in a traditional sense. REmake and RE7 are the only ones where I ever found myself being like “I’m not emotionally ready to go through that door yet” lol.

Yep, REmake and RE7, with special mention for House Beneviento in RE8. The other games have never done more than mildly creep me out a handful of times.
octoberart.bsky.social
Hopefully Capcom's already learned a lesson with how unspeakably awful a lot of that game looks upon any level of scrutiny lol, but yeah I can see that. Easier/cheaper way of killing two birds etc

pretty dedicated fanbase that’s kept it selling a million units with each subsequent port since 2012. Idk maybe I’m wrong, just seems like a LOT to juggle when the reward would be “making RE6 less bad but also probably less interesting”, you know? 5/5
octoberart.bsky.social
with REmake 3? Where is the line between a game’s narrative, and the a game’s *identity*? RE6 is the same thing imo. You’d have to change SO much about RE6 to “fix” what most people dislike about it that Capcom might as well just make a different game, especially when RE6 does have a 4/5
octoberart.bsky.social
(all things I don’t mind and think are actually pretty natural additions from a narrative standpoint) I feel like you’d get to a certain point where you’re not really remaking Dead Space 3, you’re just making a new game that’s sorta adapting on DS3’s story, and wasn’t that more or less the issue 3/5
octoberart.bsky.social
out of story content (which I think is cool but I’ve seen people furious about that), the weapon customization locking you into having universal ammo, even on the “classic” difficulty, robs it of the survival element, the Gears of War elements like rolling, taking cover, combat against humans 2/5
octoberart.bsky.social
Oh I have no doubt that there’s lots they could improve/add back in to a DSR3, what I mean more is that I think they’d need to also pretty wholesale remove things too. Co-op was a huge sticking point for a lot of people, even though you can completely ignore it, but also ignoring it locks you 1/5
octoberart.bsky.social
Yeah I guess never say never, just feels like it wouldn’t be worth the effort. I feel the same about Dead Space 3, how do you even begin to approach remaking a “bad” game? You would have to change so much, but in so doing, alienate the fans the original had. Real tough call.
octoberart.bsky.social
I don’t see RE6 happening tbh, it’d be such a complicated, expensive thankless project. They’d def do CV first imo.
octoberart.bsky.social
Yeah, these were great. Kind of unrepresentative of the actual game unfortunately but they were really amazing. “Fear you can’t forget” is a great tagline too.
octoberart.bsky.social
A lot of RE5 feels very stilted and stiff, and I think a remake would absolutely address that because it affects things like boss fights pretty badly. I think finding a middle ground between REmake 4’s parry and RE6’s dodge could help, which looks like that’s kinda what’s happening in this footage.

Also bring back the extreme HDR lighting, it looks *so* cool and the final game lost it for the most part. Build combat around not always being able to see clearly, make it part of that pressure and that sense of being drowned in the terror.
octoberart.bsky.social
Whenever they inevitably get to REmake 5 I really hope they return to the brutal, overwhelming look early trailers have. SWARMS of enemies grabbing, shoving, grappling, swiping, racing at you, tearing down platforms and ripping apart the environment. Keep us under pressure and never lighten up.

Playing Jak and Daxter 1 tonight and I’m really struck by just how… *fun* it is. Nothing’s guiding me besides the level design and placement of collectibles, everything’s laid out in a way that makes precise jumps fun to perform but difficult to nail, and the colors are SO pretty.

Oh trust me, it 100% should be a statue of Grace. I don’t need a third statue of Leon — but I’d be shocked if Capcom passed up the opportunity to make a third statue of him based on whatever he looks like now, assuming he is indeed in the game.
