In the same vein, public access television disappeared in America because so many White Supremacists filled the airwaves with hate, the government decided to shut the whole thing down instead of trying to censor them.

These assholes would rather ruin shit completely than let someone else have it.
American White Supremacists kinda Loved having public programs and facilities...all the way up until Someone said they had to share with Black folks. So they filled all the pools with concrete. Anything to Help Whitey as long as it didn't help Black folks.

One of my next music history rabbit holes I'm going to dig into is what hurt Garth Brooks so bad, he went from this to THIS.

John and Paul wrote A LOT of songs named after women. Lovely Rita, Michelle My Belle, Julia, etc. So when Nirvana sat down to write a Beatles-like song, the end result was named 'About A Girl". Kurt loved the Beatles.

Ben Sisario needs to stop writing about music, and just fight his dad already.
As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. Your enemy, if you absolutely needed one, was hair metal. GTFO here with this.

Could someone smarter than me explain what these are referencing? I mean, I'm pretty reasonably assuming that silk song is referencing metal gear, but I don't think this motif spring fully formed from the mind of Video Kojima.

I'm just not sure if I'm looking at film or art history for an answer..

Meanwile, his ex is putting out music explicitly about how the pretrial system is tearing black women away from their families to boost prison numbers.

🎧 If your favorite Garth Brooks song was Calling Baton Rouge, you're going to like this one. Plenty of country songs out there about being on the open road. I love a song about having a reason to get off it, at least every now and again.

This is horrendous news. Every person I've talked to that's been to Brentwood was scarred by it, and these were all grown folks.

Mark my words, this is gonna fuck up a lot of Shreveport kids..

Not that the man needs the extra controversy, but I'm pretty sure Donald Glover did it first.

Is there any book/comic/movie from the 1980s that's had a bigger cultural impact than Akira?

Genuinely asking. If you have an argument, I wanna hear it.

Alt: THE motorcycle slide from Akira. I'm not even going to describe it this time. I know that's what alt text is for, but this is one of the most copied shots in all of animation and Cinema. If you've seen any kind of moving pictures in the past 40 years you know exactly what I'm talking about.

If Mamdani is smart (and as squeaky clean as he appears), he could absolutely turn a denial of his security clearance into a FOIA shitshow, and make the whole thing a spotlight on public access to politician's records.

You say he's a risk? I'mma need y'all to actually lay out how.
An early test of the future Mamdani-Trump dynamic? Security clearance.

Before taking office as NYC's mayor, Mamdani will need a top-level security clearance from the federal government — something Trump has revoked before to punish his political enemies.

I'm gonna reserve judgement until I get a chance to hear this kid's "Het! Haaah! HIIIYAAAH!!"
This is Miyamoto. Filming is underway for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda in a lush, natural setting, with Bo Bragason-san who will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san who will play Link (1/2).

The funniest thing about "Mamdani will ruin New York" is that Shreveport already has a bunch of the things he's pushing for.

Free buses? We've had those since 2020. Baby baskets? A nonprofit handles it, but we've had those since '21.

This man bought a handful of dilapidated properties here, but hasn't put one bit of work in on any of them.

He's hosted ONE festival here, completely ignored local talent, and so far the follow up has failed to happen.

Shreveport doesn't need 50 Cent. And we definitely don't need his 'friends.'

Poor Kevin, he'll never find Lil' Mikey in Shreveport. He hasn't been here in nearly two years.

He came to Haughton, a sundown town in his district, to preach at a church earlier this year, but December of '23 was the last time his ass was in Ratchet City..

What's more, even if someone is selling their food stamps, it still sounds to me like someone in that transaction will actually be able to afford food.

Sounds like a a win to me.
Some people abuse the system, selling food stamps, hiding income, whatever. Some people just plain suck. But...

I'm ok with that if it means children don't starve.

I have never needed services like SNAP. I'm fine with my taxes paying for it because I live in a society with varying needs.
