For years I've had an idea for an artzine incubating in my mind, and now that the stars are alligned, that idea is coming to fruition. The Critical Reflection artzine is for those who believe games can be poetry and that they carry meaning.

To understand this problem, first, you have to understand the demographics of Star Trek viewers. Trekkies are and always have been men. Women are not usually interested in science fiction, but that’s doubly true of Star Trek in particular. I hear you, random guy who once knew some lady who watched every Voyager episode. I see you on Instagram, attractive girl cosplaying in Starfleet miniskirts. Unfortunately, you very cool Trek-girls are the exception, not the rule.

The mind turns to a slimy slug covered in mucus and feathers when you’re stuck in a conference you *really* have no interest, reason or cause to be at beyond «it’s important to show face.» They had even hidden away the coffee machine so that I couldn’t find it ’til halfway through!

The answer to "how does [author] hold up?" is always "for whom?" Bester holds up fine to me, but I'm a 56-year-old white dude who has a vested interest in the genre. My take on his hold-uppedness will be different than, say, a 15-year-old BIPOC girl approaching science fiction for the first time.

Om det ikke kommer tydelig fram, så beklages det, men ingenting av kritikken er rettet mot NFI. Og ja, vi jobbet hardt for å differensiere mellom e-sport og spilling generelt i strategien, men i etterkant har fortsatt e-sport fått stå som ansiktet utad når det gjelder spillkultur.
