Behold, the Sword of Power! Excalibur! For anyone waiting for things from me, this is why: my brain has been consumed by John Boorman and Excalibur, both of them dear to my heart. The restoration is stunning, and finally presents the film in the right aspect ratio on home video... 🧵1/8

Weirdly enough, this is also how they get Trump in the MRI machine
You can get ChatGPT to help you build a nuclear bomb if you simply design the prompt in the form of a poem, according to a new study from researchers in Europe. www.wired.com/story/poems-...

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

And now it's snowing.
For more than 10 years, @normwilner.bsky.social and I used to go to NYC for Thanksgiving. It was the highlight of our year. We would walk so much and eat at all our favourite places and drink too much coffee. We haven't been since 2019 and we both miss it terribly.

Something to be thankful for, especially if you live near Palm Springs.
The historic Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs — closed since 2014 — reopens this week after a $34 million renovation.

CAMILLE (1936) w/ Greta Garbo screens Dec 12, on the 89th anniversary of its world premiere at the theatre.

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."

Thread. This is a really good take.
AI is a prediction machine, choosing words and images based on probability. It can approximate an artist's style but cannot make an artist's choices, which is where art differentiates itself from homage and pastiche. It reminds me of a deleted scene in A History of Violence.

NICE GUYS cinematic universe. One film every Christmas until I'm deposed.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Stalking kills. I am, by every possible measurement, a statistical anomaly because few people survive being stalked for a decade like I was.

Stalking is femicide in slow motion.
