In November 1961, the Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Bill was given Royal Assent and the province began to implement universal healthcare.
But in May 1962, 90% of the province's doctors went on strike.
This is the story of the Saskatchewan Doctor's Strike.

A black-and-white photograph of a group of people protesting in front of a grand building with a large dome and columns, likely a government or legislative structure. The protesters are holding signs with messages such as "ALTERNATE PLANS IGNORED," "PLAN MUST SATISFY ALL," "SPEND MEDICARE NOW," and "DEMOCRACY IS THREATENED." The scene includes cars and a flag atop the building, with a partly cloudy sky in the background.

Bike Share is a real Toronto success story, and Toronto Parking have been a good steward since it was saved from bankruptcy. All that's missing is a plan to double the current number of trips and catch and pass Montreal in the next 5 years. In the @thestar.com :

www.thestar.com/news/gta/how...
Toronto Star: “What we need to do is convince them that it is a safe option in the right place at the right time,” he said. “And because you get to choose how you use the bike and where you use the bike, you can make it safe.”

Longfield, who has opposed Ford’s bike lane legislation in the courts and extensively in the media, sees bike share’s rise going hand-in-hand with the expansion of the city’s bike lane network.

“You can see objectively with the number of trips that have been going up with Bike Share, month over month, year after year, that it really does speak to more people cycling as more stations have grown along the cycling network plan expansion,” Longfield said.

“The province’s recent sidelining of trustees at four boards is not about improved governance. It is about erasure. Erasing local democratic governance severs the link between schools & communities & undermines accountability to the public.” www.thetrillium.ca/opinion/opin... #onted #onpoli #topoli
OPINION: Renewal of school boards needed, not removal of trustees
Four former directors of education argue that instead of eliminating school trustees, a review of the mandate and operations of school boards ‘could be beneficial’

Ontario used to be the economic engine of Ont. Why doesn't Ford work on restoring Ontario's economic standing instead of bike lanes in TO and speed cameras in cities or cos playing Captain 🇨🇦.
DF's busy grifting whatever he can from Ontario (Community Colleges) for himself & his rich buddies.

Someone should remind ford of what his provincial government is in charge of and what he should let other levels of government be in charge of 🤔
Some Canadians should look at this too🤔 blame the proper levels of government 🤔
Not just Trudeau and PM Carney ✌️
Happy thanksgiving weekend 🖖

Ford is no better than the man that he loves south of us who is ruining the US. ford only said he didn’t love trump anymore because the auto unions would have voted against him. Make no mistake if ford (and let’s call them out) Mrs Roger’s were invited to maralago they would be there in a heartbeat

The erosion of democracy is what I see.
It centralizes power and takes away the voice of Ontarians.

Seems that he can’t handle the larger provincial issues so he turns his attention to bicycle lanes, speed cameras and 6-plexes.

Ford is shameless. To see the harmful impacts of shameless government we need only look South. Yet we know his shamelessness has been causing harm here for years & in Toronto his brother’s shamelessness before that. Shamelessness is ok in some arenas but is the modern scurge when it comes to greed.

ah, $14 million more for “skills training”.

Ford government is showing off that they cut $14 million from TDSB classroom budget, maxing out class sizes for all students. The supervisor undid the work of Trustees who’d voted for smaller class sizes. Shame! #topoli #onted #onpoli

Congrats on saving $14 million dollars on the backs of teachers, students and families,
TDSB
TDSB, under direction from the provincial supervisor, sent its admin an email last night, celebrating the $14.5 million they saved by forcing the least common sense, most disruptive reorganization ever. The TDSB, under normal circumstances, does not care about staff and only minimally about kids and families, but under this supervisor, they don't care at all.

Our submission opposing any delays implementing the Sheppard Complete Street. We cannot let fear or uncertainty of provincial bullying block our progress. Not moving forward with the Cycling Network Plan by the City effectively hand Council's own power to the Premier and undermine its authority.
Dear Councillor Carroll, Mayor Chow, and members of City Council,

Re: MM33.5 - Protecting Public Investment & Advancing Interim Solutions Along Sheppard Avenue East

We are writing to express our strong support for completing the Sheppard Avenue East Complete Street project as originally approved by City Council in June 2023. We urge you to reject MM33.5.

There is currently nothing in the Province’s Bill 212, Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024 that blocks the City from moving forward with the Sheppard Avenue East Compete Street or any cycling infrastructure project, even those involving lane reconfigurations (though the majority of this project would not). Toronto is not a “prescribed municipality”, and to date no regulations have been issued requiring Ministerial approval:

(3) Subsection (1) does not apply to a municipality in respect of a bicycle lane if, on the day the municipality is prescribed for the purposes of subsection (1), a contract has already been awarded or entered into for the construction, installation or marking of the bicycle lane or, if the construction, installation or marking of the bicycle lane is to be done by the municipality and not by any party under contract, such work has already commenced.

Cycle Toronto’s recent legal win challenging the constitutionality of the Province’s attempt to remove and reconfigure the bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge, and University makes clear that the underlying legislation is arbitrary and reckless.

Bundling these improvements on Sheppard with planned road work is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for North York. We cannot let fear or uncertainty of provincial bullying block our progress. Any delays to the approved Cycling Network Plan by the City effectively hand your power to the Premier and undermine your authority.

Michael Longfield
Executive Director
