I think this kind of hyperscrupulous policing is really unhealthy and is going to die a hard death. There are more important things going on rn. And it’s clear people are burnt out on a politics of media consumption
Social media has connected me with so many amazing people and also it caught me in a trap of moral hyperscrupulosity that I didn't realize and am still disentangling myself from

this might be controversial but i don't think you're owed people being nice to you. or wanting to hang out with you. or "community." you're responsible for your own actions. and it's your responsibility to be a pleasant person to be around. and it's your responsibility to make people like you.

Desantis’s pet troll Christina Pushaw is going through some things. It is only a matter of time before these people get exposed. Seems like all of these shady people have things to hide and it’s only a matter of time before it all comes out. Usually they rat out each other.

you can really tell who here knows they have congressional staff following them and also you can see how all their other followers don't understand why they're talking in a very specific register lol

On the religious side, the viewpoint is that one's body is just a temporary vessel for one's spirit, which is the property of god. Therefore, they do not own their own body--and neither does anyone else.

It is indeed a very dangerous self-perspective.

Robert Heinlein, the libertarian sci-fi author, summed up their viewpoint from a secular angle:

"I have had a dirty suspicion since I was about six that all consciousness is one and that all the actors I see around me (including my enemies) are myself, at different points in the record's grooves."

season 2 of Andor is, in part, about needing to be able to judge when "agility and discretion but being unable to share tactics or coordinate" is worth being replaced with something tangible and easier to threaten but better collective use of labor.

I've actually started wondering if a not insignificant chunk of them think that their 'self' isn't their self and is instead have been taught it's words of god or whatever, in a way that's incredibly dangerous to the devout. dunno if that's just how religeon was for centuries or what but like
This fear actually proceeds from an even deeper impulse, the belief that quick judgment thinking (what I call memetic epistemology) is superior to extrinsic thinking.

They trust their instincts more than anyone else, regardless of their expertise.

killing annas-archive is such a shortsighted move yet again not only because AI companies are getting a similar pass, but because similar free access to paid journal papers is holding up like half of the scientific breakthroughs since like 2017 globally

The fact that the CAF are in Greenland at the moment with the US as part of a NORAD exercise, while also contemplating joining the Denmark-led NATO exercise, captures Canada's defence dilemma quite well.

Canada weighs sending soldiers to Greenland as show of NATO solidarity with Denmark
Move would likely anger U.S. President Trump, who has threatened new tariffs on European countries that sent miliary personnel to Greenland

That’s it. We’re neighbors looking out for our neighbors. We do it when we shovel each other’s walks and push each other out of snowdrifts and we do it when there are snatch squads roaming the streets. It runs deep in Minneapolis: we all have to band together to survive the winters.
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

ICE and MAGA really did bet the farm on all of Minneapolis’s white people going “oh yes, please take away our disgusting, evil non-white-foreigner neighbors, oh thank you so much.”

it’s beautiful that they’ve been proven incredibly wrong about that - may the rest of the country do the same.
