There's a reason why sports teams don't chant "I believe that we will lose" before a game, a reason so obvious that I'm pretty sure it needs no explanation. Which is why it makes my head explode when people surrender in advance verbally, which they do all the time about politics.

Chattel slavery was so bad that when we tell you how bad it in fact was most of y'all shut down and tell us we're making it up and pass laws against us ever telling you how bad it was again because your brains literally cannot handle how bad it in fact was.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

This is the rhetoric of dictators — across time & geography — that freedom (for some) must be sacrificed for security, reinforcing the power of the regime. Instead of engaging in fights about crime rates, the opposition to this madness needs to hammer on this authoritarian frame over & over again.

The best part of white supremacy is assuming Black folks are just going to stop talking about racial oppressions because they order it. The Smithsonian is important but the lessons didn’t start there. Way to undermine your own institutions though.

When history is erased & education is attacked, the question becomes:
Whose truth survives?

“Indoctrination”? We Call It “Education.”
It’s not “divisive” to teach about division. It’s divisive to bury it.

Deeply disappointing. From all of the many focus groups and listening sessions we've hosted, we know Black, Indigenous, and other students (and faculty) of color do not feel a sense of support and belonging at UW. The work here is far from done.
UW Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin announced Wednesday that the university's DEI division would be dissolved and existing scholarship and employee support functions moved to other divisions. A "small number" of jobs will be eliminated. Details: buff.ly/XBtMLqI
